What you'll do
- Lead the design and analysis of marine structures, including docks, piers, and offshore platforms, ensuring compliance with industry standards and regulations.
- Conduct detailed structural assessments and evaluations to determine the integrity and safety of existing marine infrastructure.
- Collaborate with project managers and other engineers to develop project scopes, timelines, and budgets.
- Utilize advanced engineering software and tools to create detailed structural models and simulations.
- Prepare comprehensive technical reports and documentation to communicate findings and recommendations to stakeholders.
- Mentor and guide junior engineers and interns, fostering their professional development and growth within the company.
- Participate in site inspections and assessments to gather data and ensure construction adheres to design specifications.
- Stay updated on industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices in marine engineering to enhance project outcomes.
- Engage with clients and regulatory bodies to address concerns and ensure project compliance with local and national standards.
- Contribute to the preparation of proposals and bids for new projects, showcasing Gemtec's expertise and capabilities.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, including environmental specialists and geotechnical engineers, to ensure holistic project development.
- Manage multiple projects simultaneously, prioritizing tasks effectively to meet deadlines and deliver high-quality results.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Civil or Structural Engineering, with a focus on marine or coastal engineering preferred.
- A minimum of 5 years of experience in marine structural engineering, with a proven track record of successful project delivery.
- Professional Engineer (P.Eng) designation or eligibility for registration in New Brunswick.
- Strong understanding of marine engineering principles, structural analysis methods, and design codes.
- Proficiency in engineering design software such as AutoCAD, SAP2000, or similar tools.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to think critically and make informed decisions.
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, to effectively convey technical information to diverse audiences.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment while also being self-motivated and capable of working independently.
- Familiarity with environmental regulations and sustainability practices in marine engineering.
Nice to have
- Experience with project management and familiarity with project management software.
- Knowledge of geotechnical engineering principles and soil-structure interaction.
- Previous experience working on offshore projects or with marine construction companies.
- Advanced degree in a relevant field, such as a Master's in Structural Engineering or Marine Engineering.
- Certification in specialized areas such as seismic design or underwater construction techniques.
Skills & tools
- Proficient in structural analysis and design software, including but not limited to AutoCAD, SAP2000, and STAAD Pro.
- Strong skills in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel and Project for data analysis and project tracking.
- Familiarity with BIM (Building Information Modeling) tools and practices.
- Knowledge of marine construction techniques and materials.
- Ability to interpret and apply relevant codes and standards, including Canadian Standards Association (CSA) and American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) guidelines.
