Software Engineer, Growth
Job description
About the role
Growth experiments guide visitors toward registration and paying users. This role manages the full user journey from first interaction to paid conversion. You will own the design, implementation, and optimization of features that move the funnel across web and in-product experiences. You will partner with product managers, designers, and data analysts to turn hypotheses into shipping code. The work involves rapid iteration, where every change is treated as an experiment that informs the next step. You will be responsible for maintaining the reliability of the stack while improving developer velocity. Clear communication is essential as you translate business goals into technical specifications and share progress with the team.
What you'll do
You will run A/B tests and enable rapid iteration while developing tooling to strengthen the experimentation framework. You will build and maintain the full stack, ensuring cohesive user experiences through integrated frontend, backend, and analytics instrumentation. You will translate business goals into technical implementations in collaboration with product management, design, and data teams. This role requires comfort with A/B testing, analytics, and interpreting metrics to evaluate experiment outcomes. You must balance the ability to move fast during experiments with acting slowly and deliberately when handling credits and payments. A scrappy approach with comfort in ambiguity and iterative shipping is essential for navigating ambiguous problem spaces. Experience with growth or monetization systems, such as onboarding, paywalls, referrals, or payment flows, is preferred.
Requirements
You must have production web applications built over 3+ years with strong full-stack fundamentals. Proficiency in TypeScript, React, and Node.js, or solid fundamentals in similar technologies, is required. A product and business mindset that drives growth and monetization metrics upward is a core motivation. You must be comfortable with A/B testing, analytics, and interpreting metrics. The ability to move fast during experiments while acting slowly and deliberately when handling credits and payments is essential. A scrappy approach with comfort in ambiguity and iterative shipping is required. Experience with growth or monetization systems, such as onboarding, paywalls, referrals, or payment flows, is preferred.
Practical notes
Flexibility to work from home is available when focus is most needed.
Typical interview steps
Hiring for engineering roles usually starts with a recruiter screen, followed by one or two technical rounds. Candidates often solve a coding problem, discuss past projects, and answer system design questions. Some loops include a take-home task. Final rounds typically cover team fit and give candidates a chance to ask questions. Interviewers look for how you break down an unfamiliar problem, not just whether you reach the answer. Practicing a few problems aloud and reviewing your own past projects are the best preparation.
Good to know
Work in this field centers on experiments that influence user behavior and revenue. Common tools include frontend frameworks, Node services, analytics platforms, and experimentation systems. Roles in growth teams often combine product sense with data analysis to guide feature decisions.
Questions to ask
Worth asking in any interview: how the team measures success, who the role works with daily, what the onboarding looks like, and what the company is trying to achieve this year. Asking what past hires did well is a strong final question. Keep the list short and pick the questions that matter most to you.
Career growth
Engineering careers usually progress from individual contributor to senior, staff, and principal levels. Some engineers move into management and lead teams of five to twenty people. Others stay on the technical track. Growth follows demonstrated impact, not tenure alone. A typical engineering ladder has clear levels with defined expectations for scope, quality, and mentorship. Moving up usually requires owning outcomes end to end rather than completing assigned tickets.
