About the role
The is the executive owner of the complete technology strategy and execution roadmap for the organization. This role owns the end-to-end architecture, defining the long-term technical vision that enables scalable, secure, and high-performance solutions. The hire will directly own the engineering roadmap and delivery cadence, ensuring that technology initiatives are tightly aligned with commercial objectives and clinical impact metrics. They will own the leadership, development, and performance of the entire engineering organization, including both US-based and offshore teams. This position owns the critical responsibility of integrating artificial intelligence across the technology stack to accelerate product delivery and unlock new service offerings. The CTO will own the partnership with the Chief Product Officer to build and ship products that drive member engagement, retention, and health outcomes. This role owns the translation of complex business and clinical requirements into robust, scalable technical solutions that support Foodsmart's mission. The hire will own the governance of key technical foundations, data integrity, and operational reliability to support a platform serving millions of members.

What you'll do
Define and own the enterprise technology strategy, translating business and clinical objectives into a clear, actionable technical roadmap.
Architect and oversee the delivery of a scalable, secure, and high-performance technology infrastructure that supports rapid growth and evolving product needs.
Lead, build, and mentor a high-performing, pod-based engineering organization, fostering a culture of ownership, quality, and continuous improvement.
Partner closely with the Chief Product Officer to prioritize initiatives, manage trade-offs, and ensure timely, high-quality delivery of customer-facing products.
Drive the adoption and integration of artificial intelligence and machine learning to enhance development velocity and create new, AI-powered member and partner experiences.
Establish and enforce technical best practices, code quality standards, and operational excellence across the full stack and across domestic and offshore teams.
Own the long-term planning for domestic and offshore staffing models, shaping the future structure and growth of the engineering organization.
Oversee the management of critical data assets and foundational data layers to ensure reliability, accessibility, and alignment with business outcomes.
Champion an AI-first mindset, identifying opportunities to leverage generative AI and automation to optimize internal processes and product innovation.
Act as the primary technical leader responsible for ensuring the reliability, scalability, and security of platforms that serve millions of members across multiple healthcare ecosystems.
Translate complex stakeholder requirements into clear technical specifications and success metrics for cross-functional teams.
Provide executive-level communication and technical guidance to senior leadership, the board, and key partners on technology progress and risks.
Requirements
Must have a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
Must have a minimum of 15 years of progressive experience in software engineering or technology leadership roles, with a demonstrated track record of building and scaling high-impact products.
Must have at least 7 years of hands-on experience managing, mentoring, and developing engineering teams, including offshore resources.
Must possess a deep technical expertise in modern software development practices, including cloud platforms, distributed systems, and scalable architecture design.
Must demonstrate a strong background in data architecture, including data modeling, pipelines, and the ability to leverage data for strategic decision-making.
Must have a proven history of driving operational excellence, including deployment pipelines, monitoring, and incident response in large-scale production environments.
Must have experience building and managing budgets, managing P&L responsibilities, and making strategic investment decisions related to technology and talent.
Must hold a strong understanding of healthcare data, privacy, and compliance considerations relevant to serving members through payers and government programs.
Nice to have
Experience in consumer-driven healthcare or membership-based models is strongly preferred.
Prior experience in a pod-based or agile operating model is highly desirable.
Background in AI product development or implementing generative AI at scale is preferred.
Experience with telenutrition or digital health platforms is a significant advantage.
Practical notes
This role is based in San Francisco and requires relocation or proximity to the San Francisco Bay Area.
This is a full-time executive position with standard business hours and on-call responsibilities for major incidents.
Travel may be required for team offsites, stakeholder meetings, and industry events.
Candidates must be eligible to work in the United States without sponsorship for this role.
