The Systems Engineer / Architect for the Reactor System will oversee the entire engineering lifecycle of the fusion island, ensuring that all systems within the plant are not only safe but also seamlessly integrated and primed for operational readiness. What you'll do
- Lead the systems engineering processes for the fusion island and its associated fuel cycle, ensuring all components work harmoniously.
- Develop and manage essential documentation, including design basis documents, system architecture outlines, requirements specifications, and interface control documents.
- Set and uphold project baselines to track progress and ensure alignment with project goals.
- Conduct comprehensive trade studies to effectively balance performance metrics, safety considerations, and cost constraints.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to foster a cohesive design approach across the plant.
- Implement robust safety protocols that incorporate redundancy, diversity, and defense-in-depth strategies to mitigate risks.
- Participate actively in design reviews, safety committees, and independent verification and validation processes to uphold the highest standards of safety and quality.
- Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineers, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and innovation within the team.
- Stay current with industry trends and advancements in fusion technology to inform design decisions and project direction.
- Facilitate communication between stakeholders to ensure transparency and alignment throughout the project lifecycle.
- Prepare and present technical reports and updates to senior management and external stakeholders, showcasing project milestones and achievements.
Requirements
- A degree in engineering or a closely related field is essential.
- At least 5 years of professional experience in systems engineering, demonstrating a solid understanding of the discipline.
- A strong background in requirements engineering, with the ability to translate complex needs into actionable specifications.
- Proficiency in breaking down intricate systems into manageable functional components for easier analysis and implementation.
- Experience in managing trade-offs within the constraints of time, cost, and performance.
- Familiarity with the design of nuclear plant systems is highly desirable.
- Expertise in systems engineering methodologies and the integration of multidisciplinary approaches.
- Competence in using CAD and other plant design software tools to support engineering efforts.
Nice to have
- An advanced degree (M.Sc. or Ph.D.) in engineering would be advantageous.
- Experience working in the nuclear sector or similar high-integrity safety environments is a plus.
- Knowledge of nuclear safety analysis principles and their application in engineering design.
- Familiarity with Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) tools, such as SysML or Cameo Systems Modeler, to enhance design processes.
- Understanding of RAMI analysis, Quality Assurance protocols, licensing procedures, as well as experience with project management tools like Jira and Confluence.
