Key facts
What you'll do
- Partner with various teams, including product managers, software engineers, and oncologists, to develop innovative real-world data products that enhance patient outcomes.
- Establish and nurture relationships with stakeholders at partner sites to gain a thorough understanding of their data and streamline data transfer processes.
- Develop expertise in the quality, format, and origins of partner data, creating validation methods to ensure data consistency and reliability.
- Perform exploratory analyses to devise data ingestion strategies that align with our standards, and outline business logic for integrating new data into Flatiron's unified data model.
- Explore and implement LLM-based methodologies for processing unstructured electronic health record data, thereby improving our data products.
- Collaborate with software engineers to design, automate, and scale data pipelines, utilizing both internal and external AI tools to enhance efficiency.
- Analyze and interpret complex datasets to derive actionable insights that can inform decision-making and strategy.
- Contribute to the development of data-driven solutions that address real-world challenges in oncology, ensuring that our products meet the needs of healthcare providers and patients alike.
- Stay updated on industry trends and advancements in data science and healthcare to continuously improve our methodologies and practices.
- Mentor junior data scientists and contribute to a culture of knowledge sharing and continuous learning within the team.
- Participate in cross-functional meetings to communicate findings and progress, ensuring alignment with organizational goals and objectives.
Requirements
- A Bachelor's or Master's degree in a relevant technical field such as data science, engineering, computer science, mathematics, applied statistics, or health economics.
- A minimum of 5 years of experience in data science or a closely related discipline.
- Deep understanding of various data sources and a strong desire to explore and analyze new datasets.
- Proven experience with machine learning and LLMs, with the ability to assess and enhance AI systems effectively.
- Proficiency in Python, particularly with data manipulation libraries such as pandas or polars, as well as SQL, and experience in a collaborative development environment utilizing version control systems.
- Solid grasp of key statistical concepts and the capability to conduct and interpret statistical analyses accurately.
- Exceptional communication skills, with the ability to convey complex data insights in a clear and relatable manner.
- Highly self-motivated with a strong sense of accountability and the ability to manage multiple priorities effectively.
- A genuine commitment to leveraging data and technology to improve cancer care outcomes.
Nice to have
- Experience working within the healthcare industry.
- Familiarity with tools such as DBT and Snowflake, or a willingness to acquire new skills in these areas.
- Knowledge of regulatory requirements and best practices in healthcare data management.
