AI Tech Lead Manager
Job description
About the role
We are looking for an AI Tech Lead Manager (Platform) to help us accomplish our mission to improve and extend lives by learning from the experience of every person with cancer. Are you ready to be the next changemaker in cancer care? In this position, you will own the leadership and development of a UK- and Germany-based engineering team dedicated to AI enablement, platform engineering, and developer experience. You will play a pivotal role in evolving our Platform organization from a primarily US-centered infrastructure group into a globally capable enablement function that supports Flatiron's expanding international presence. This role requires you to act as both a technical and people leader, translating high-level strategy into actionable execution plans for regional teams. You will be responsible for ensuring that platform capabilities remain robust, scalable, and aligned with the needs of international markets. Ultimately, you will drive the delivery of reliable, secure, and efficient platform services that empower our builders worldwide.

What you'll do
Lead and develop a UK- and Germany-based engineering team focused on AI enablement, platform engineering, developer experience, networking, data infrastructure, and regional platform support, fostering a strong local culture while maintaining alignment with global Platform teams.
Partner with US-based Platform leaders and cross-functional stakeholders to align regional execution with global strategy, establish clear operating models, and translate international business and regulatory needs into platform priorities.
Lead complex, cross-functional initiatives across engineering, product, security, and data science, driving alignment, prioritisation, and execution through influence and collaboration.
Define the technical direction for reusable AI platform capabilities, including AI workflows, orchestration, agentic systems, governance, and standards for secure, reliable, and scalable deployment.
Establish engineering best practices for AI-enabled systems, including evaluation, observability, reliability, cost management, incident response, operational ownership, and governance.
Guide architectural decisions across deterministic automation, single-agent, and multi-agent approaches, helping teams make pragmatic build-versus-buy and platform-versus-product decisions as AI technologies evolve.
Build team capability through hands-on technical leadership, coaching, experimentation, design reviews, and adoption of emerging AI technologies and engineering practices.
Drive operational excellence by promoting sustainable support models, documentation, stakeholder communication, and clear decision-making while effectively communicating technical tradeoffs and uncertainty in a rapidly evolving AI landscape.
Champion the adoption of platform thinking across international teams to ensure solutions are reusable, scalable, and aligned with long-term product goals.
Collaborate closely with product and design teams to ensure that platform capabilities address real user needs and support high-quality, production-ready solutions.
Promote a culture of continuous learning and improvement by introducing new methodologies, tools, and feedback loops to enhance team performance and product quality.
Act as a key technical advisor for AI and platform initiatives, providing clarity and direction on complex problems that impact multiple teams.
Ensure that all platform and AI initiatives comply with relevant regulatory and security standards across the regions you support.
Foster strong relationships with other engineering managers to share practices, coordinate dependencies, and drive consistency in engineering standards.

Strong technical foundation in platform architecture, cloud infrastructure, CI/CD, observability, Kubernetes, networking, data platforms, developer platforms, or AI/ML infrastructure, with the ability to guide architectural decisions across traditional software, AI workflows, and agentic systems.
Experience with AI workflow orchestration, agentic systems, and model deployment patterns, including an understanding of the tradeoffs involved in building versus buying AI components.
Proven ability to operate comfortably in ambiguous, fast-paced environments while maintaining a focus on delivery and quality.
Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to influence without direct authority and present technical concepts to diverse audiences.
Strong commitment to best practices in security, reliability, scalability, and cost-effectiveness for platform services.
Demonstrated experience with coaching, mentoring, and developing high-performing engineering teams.
