About the role
Flagship Pioneering is seeking a highly skilled Senior Engineer to join our team and help advance our AI and automation capabilities. This position is integral to the Digital Platforms team within the IT department, focusing on creating and scaling infrastructure that supports AI applications across the organization. You will work closely with the Enterprise AI team to design, develop, and implement AI solutions that enhance operational efficiency, foster innovation, and streamline workflows in various business functions. The role involves building robust automation systems, maintaining AI infrastructure, and ensuring seamless integration with enterprise systems. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in software development, automation engineering, and cloud architecture, with hands-on experience deploying large language models and AI-enabled SaaS solutions.
Key facts
What you'll do
- Develop, test, and deploy AI applications across multiple departments, including finance, legal, HR, research, and operations, ensuring they meet organizational needs and scalability requirements.
- Oversee the maintenance and enhancement of AI infrastructure, including MCP server setups, agentic frameworks, orchestration of large language models, and low-code/no-code automation tools such as Zapier and Workato.
- Collaborate with the Enterprise AI Lead to define the AI use case portfolio, prioritize projects, and accelerate the transition from initial evaluation to full production deployment.
- Build and maintain integrations between AI tools and enterprise systems like Coupa, NetSuite, Slack, and M365, ensuring data flow and operational consistency.
- Design and implement an MLOps platform that supports the deployment, monitoring, and feedback of AI workflows, with a focus on usage tracking, output quality, and continuous improvement.
- Assist in evaluating and implementing AI-enabled SaaS solutions, including conducting proof-of-concept projects, vendor evaluations, and pilot programs to test new AI tools and platforms.
- Contribute to the development of AI governance frameworks, including establishing policies for usage monitoring, Zero Data Retention checks, and comprehensive documentation to ensure compliance and transparency.
- Work closely with the Information Security team to assess AI security risks, improve workflow safeguards, and address data exposure concerns, ensuring AI systems adhere to security standards.
- Support the integration of AI workflows with existing enterprise systems, ensuring minimal disruption and maximum efficiency.
- Participate in cross-functional teams to identify automation opportunities and develop scalable solutions that align with organizational goals.
- Stay current with advancements in AI, automation, and cloud technologies, and recommend innovative approaches to improve existing systems.
- Document processes, workflows, and system configurations to facilitate knowledge sharing and future maintenance.
- Provide technical mentorship to junior team members and collaborate with other engineering teams to ensure best practices are followed.
- Assist in troubleshooting and resolving technical issues related to AI infrastructure, automation tools, and integrations.
Requirements
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in technical delivery roles, demonstrating a strong track record of successful project execution.
- At least 4 years of experience in software development, with a preference for Python, and automation engineering, with proven experience deploying large language models (LLMs).
- A minimum of 2 years working with cloud-first architectures, especially AWS, including deploying and managing cloud-based AI solutions.
- At least 2 years of experience building and launching applications using DevOps and MLOps tools, with an understanding of CI/CD pipelines and automation workflows.
- Practical experience working with LLM APIs such as Anthropic, OpenAI, or similar, including prompt engineering, multi-step workflows, and fine-tuning models.
- Hands-on experience with MCP (Multi-Cloud Platform) and other agentic tool frameworks, including building and managing agent-based automation systems.
- Familiarity with Retrieval Augmented Generation (RAG) architectures, vector databases, and document ingestion processes for AI applications.
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work collaboratively across teams to deliver scalable solutions.
- Excellent communication skills, capable of translating technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
- Knowledge of AI security considerations, data privacy, and compliance standards relevant to enterprise AI deployment.
- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and prioritize tasks effectively.
Nice to have
- Experience with low-code/no-code platforms such as Zapier, Workato, or similar tools.
- Knowledge of AI governance, compliance frameworks, and best practices for responsible AI deployment.
- Familiarity with enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems and their integration with AI workflows.
- Understanding of data privacy regulations and how they impact AI applications.
- Experience working in a fast-paced, innovative environment with evolving priorities.
Skills & tools
- Strong proficiency in Python and automation tools.
- Experience with cloud services, particularly AWS, including services like EC2, S3, Lambda, and related AI/ML offerings.
- Familiarity with DevOps and MLOps practices, including CI/CD pipelines, containerization (Docker), and orchestration tools (Kubernetes).
- Knowledge of AI security considerations, including data exposure risks and workflow safeguards.
- Experience with vector databases, document ingestion, and retrieval systems.
- Ability to develop and maintain integrations with enterprise systems such as Slack, M365, Coupa, and NetSuite.
- Familiarity with low-code/no-code automation platforms like Zapier and Workato.
- Strong scripting and automation skills to streamline workflows and system integrations.
