Supplier Quality Engineer, BotQ

About the role

Figure is at the forefront of innovation, developing a versatile humanoid robot, Figure 02, intended for both commercial and residential applications. We are on the lookout for a mechanical engineer with a strong focus on supplier quality to oversee the onboarding of vendors and ensure that our hardware components meet the highest quality standards.

What you'll do

• Assess and qualify new suppliers, developing detailed quality management plans to ensure compliance with our standards.
• Monitor and analyze supplier performance metrics, spearheading initiatives aimed at achieving and exceeding quality benchmarks.
• Collaborate with the team to provide insights on vendor inspection protocols and strategies for design optimization in manufacturing.
• Review and validate first article inspection documents to ensure they meet required specifications.
• Lead investigations into quality issues, conducting root cause analyses and implementing corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
• Supervise quality assurance processes for various production methods, including injection molding, die casting, stamping, textiles, and wire harness assembly.
• Conduct audits of supplier process plans to confirm their readiness for mass production, ensuring that all necessary quality controls are in place.
• Work closely with cross-functional teams to integrate quality considerations into product design and development phases.
• Develop training materials and conduct sessions for suppliers to enhance their understanding of our quality expectations.
• Maintain up-to-date documentation of quality processes and supplier evaluations, ensuring transparency and accountability.
• Foster strong relationships with suppliers to promote a culture of quality and continuous improvement.

Requirements

• Extensive knowledge of industrial engineering principles, manufacturing processes, and quality management systems.
• Proven track record in process validation and driving continuous improvement initiatives within a manufacturing context.
• Strong understanding and application of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) standards.
• Willingness to travel up to 20% of the time for supplier audits and assessments.
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with a keen attention to detail.
• Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, to effectively convey quality requirements and expectations.

Nice to have

• A Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Biomechanical Engineering, Robotics, Mechatronics, or a similar field.
• At least 4 years of hands-on experience in manufacturing engineering, particularly in a quality assurance role.
• Familiarity with CATIA V6 software for design and engineering applications.
• Experience in the robotics industry or other advanced technology sectors, providing insights into high-tech manufacturing challenges.
• Knowledge of regulatory standards and compliance requirements relevant to the manufacturing of robotic systems.

Skills & tools

• Proficient in GD&T principles and their application in manufacturing.
• Experienced with CATIA V6 for design and engineering tasks.
• Skilled in conducting root cause analysis to identify and resolve quality issues.
• Knowledgeable in process validation techniques to ensure product quality and reliability.
• Background in manufacturing engineering practices and methodologies.

Practical notes

• The annual base salary for this position ranges from $150,000 to $250,000.
• Final compensation will be based on individual qualifications, experience, and relevant job knowledge.
