Helix AI Engineer, iOS
Job description
About the role
Figure is building general purpose humanoid robots, including the Figure 03 model for home and commercial use. We are seeking a founding iOS engineer to lead the development of our consumer iPhone application from the ground up. You will define the technical strategy and manage the full lifecycle of the app as it interfaces with our hardware. In this capacity, you will own the end to end user journey on iOS, translating the ambitions of our robotics platform into a cohesive and reliable mobile experience. You will set the architectural vision for every screen, navigation flow, and data interaction within the application. This position requires a builder who is comfortable making high level technical decisions that shape the product for years to come. You will be responsible for ensuring that the software not only meets current feature requirements but also scales gracefully as new robot capabilities are introduced. Your work will directly influence how users perceive and interact with Figure's hardware through the lens of the iPhone.
Key facts
What you'll do
- Manage the entire iOS application lifecycle from initial architecture to final App Store distribution, overseeing every phase with disciplined execution.
- Develop a high-performance consumer interface with a focus on visual polish, ensuring interactions feel responsive and meticulously crafted.
- Create and maintain key features such as user onboarding, task management, data capture, earnings tracking, and notification systems that operate seamlessly.
- Establish the foundational coding standards, review protocols, and architectural patterns for future team members to follow and build upon.
- Implement telemetry and crash reporting to ensure stability and data-driven product improvements that guide informed decision making.
- Collaborate with hardware, backend, and Android engineering teams to deliver integrated features that work reliably across platforms.
- Execute rapid release cadences using TestFlight and the App Store, enabling frequent and confident deployments to users.
- Design and implement robust data synchronization strategies that maintain integrity even when network conditions are variable or offline.
- Optimize media processing pipelines to handle video, audio, and sensor data efficiently without compromising battery life or performance.
- Serve as the technical owner of the iOS codebase, driving refactoring efforts and long term maintainability to reduce future risk.
Requirements
- Minimum 6 years of professional experience developing and deploying consumer-facing iOS applications at scale, with a portfolio that demonstrates this history.
- Advanced proficiency in Swift and SwiftUI, writing idiomatic, safe, and performant code that leverages the full capabilities of the language.
- Extensive background in AVFoundation, media processing pipelines, and managing offline-first data synchronization across complex workflows.
- Proven track record in a lead or senior engineering capacity for mobile platforms, guiding less experienced engineers through code reviews and design discussions.
- Strong focus on product quality, interface performance, and user experience, with an intolerance for jank, regressions, or inconsistency.
- Ability to take full ownership of a platform within a small, agile team environment, making decisions quickly and communicating them clearly.
- Demonstrated experience shipping applications that interact with external hardware, understanding the constraints and nuances of such integrations.
- Commitment to writing tests, maintaining documentation, and creating engineering practices that ensure the long term health of the codebase.
Nice to have
- Prior experience at major consumer technology companies such as Uber, Instagram, or Snapchat, where large scale consumer products were built.
- Technical background in Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) or hardware connectivity, allowing for deeper collaboration with the robotics team.
- Familiarity with cross-platform frameworks like KMP, Flutter, or React Native, providing context for integration strategies.
- Knowledge of the Apple MFi Program and connecting iOS software to external hardware peripherals, reducing friction during development.
