Technical Program Manager
Job description
About the role
Figma is actively expanding its team of passionate creatives and builders who are dedicated to making design universally accessible for everyone. The role centers on owning the execution and coordination of Figma's most critical infrastructure initiatives that demand synchronized technical effort across the organization. You will be responsible for enabling infrastructure teams to scale effectively, enhance performance metrics, and successfully execute on essential projects that impact the entire platform. This position requires deep collaboration with numerous backend, infrastructure, and security teams along with cross-functional stakeholders to prioritize work, make key decisions, track execution fidelity, and drive operational excellence in complex environments. The ideal candidate will thrive in a greenspace setting where process evolves around progress and adaptability rather than rigid constraints. You will be instrumental in shaping the future of how design tools are built and delivered at scale.
Key facts
What you'll do
Orchestrate the execution, coordination, and risk mitigation for Figma's infrastructure programs to ensure seamless integration with negligible performance degradation across the platform.
Drive critical infrastructure initiatives that focus on reliability engineering, storage architecture, distributed systems optimization, cloud-native performance enhancements, and compliance frameworks such as encryption key management, FedRAMP, and SOC 2 requirements.
Collaborate closely with engineering, security, compliance, and legal departments to secure alignment on objectives, resolve dependencies, and guarantee on-time delivery of complex projects.
Monitor program milestones rigorously and enable seamless delivery across multiple infrastructure teams including data platforms, caching layers, observability systems, and security engineering groups.
Provide consistent executive-level updates to leadership, external partners, and internal teams regarding the status of infrastructure programs, emphasizing risks, blockers, and interdependencies.
Establish and drive best practices in infrastructure program management to improve visibility into progress, highlight technical risks, and clarify dependency chains for all stakeholders.
Design and manage large-scale testing and rollout strategies for pivotal infrastructure changes to minimize service downtime and ensure the highest standards of system reliability and availability.
Translate intricate technical constraints and risks into clear executive-level narratives that senior leadership and external stakeholders can act upon confidently.
Maintain a proactive stance in identifying potential roadblocks before they escalate, coordinating cross-team resources to keep programs moving forward efficiently.
Champion data-driven decision making by analyzing program metrics and outcomes to refine processes and elevate the effectiveness of infrastructure initiatives over time.
Serve as the central point of accountability for cross-functional program health, ensuring that all teams remain synchronized and deliver against shared objectives.
Leverage qualitative and quantitative insights to forecast timelines, resource needs, and technical dependencies with increasing accuracy as programs scale.
Champion a culture of continuous improvement by documenting learnings, refining playbooks, and sharing knowledge across infrastructure and product organizations.
Ensure that all infrastructure programs adhere to security and compliance standards while balancing the need for speed and innovation.
Requirements
Bring a minimum of 8 years of experience in Infrastructure Technical Program Management or related roles such as cloud engineering, SRE, or infrastructure-focused software engineering.
Possess deep technical expertise across core infrastructure components including storage solutions like S3, RDS, DynamoDB, caching technologies such as Redis, search platforms like OpenSearch, and event-driven architectures using systems such as Kafka.
Demonstrate a proven track record of driving large-scale infrastructure programs including migrations, cost optimization initiatives, encryption and key management strategies, and reliability programs that support high-availability, business-critical services.
Show strong cross-functional program management capabilities by coordinating efforts across multi-team engineering organizations, tracking performance bottlenecks, optimizing infrastructure SLAs, and establishing program management best practices within ambiguous and evolving environments.
Have extensive experience in stakeholder management, including engagement with external partners such as cloud providers and enterprise customers, and the ability to translate complex technical challenges into clear, executive-level communications.
Demonstrate the ability to reason across organizational goals, architectural trade-offs, and component-level details simultaneously to ensure holistic program success.
Exhibit ownership of end-to-end program lifecycle management from initial scoping and requirements gathering through execution, monitoring, and post-mortem analysis.
Communicate effectively in both written and verbal formats to convey technical concepts to diverse audiences with varying levels of technical understanding.
Nice to have
Bring a record of setting up and scaling TPM functions or formal program management practices within an engineering organization from the ground up.
Show experience managing high-visibility enterprise security and compliance programs that involve SOC 2, FedRAMP, and encryption key management implementations.
Have hands-on experience with infrastructure incident management, including leading post-incident reviews and driving corrective actions.
Have previous experience collaborating with external enterprise partners on technical programs, including engagements with organizations such as Apple, AWS, and Google.
