We are on the lookout for a Senior Data Operations Engineer who will take charge of our data pipeline, create internal tools, and lead the team dedicated to data collection and annotation. This role is pivotal in ensuring that our data processes are efficient and effective, contributing significantly to our mission.
Key facts
What you'll do
- Design and maintain sophisticated hardware sensor suites, which include camera arrays, mounting fixtures, and wearable technology, requiring skills in soldering and cabling.
- Create and oversee quality assurance scripts for incoming data, while also developing annotation software and internal tools to streamline data management.
- Conduct hands-on data collection sessions, utilizing techniques such as motion capture and teleoperation, to evaluate protocols and pinpoint areas for tooling enhancement.
- Annotate datasets related to robotics and autonomous vehicles, with a focus on contact states and interactions between objects.
- Supervise, schedule, and mentor interns and contractors, ensuring that all outputs meet high-quality standards and comply with safety protocols and standard operating procedures (SOPs).
- Operate robotic platforms during technical demonstrations and provide troubleshooting support for hardware or software challenges that arise during stakeholder presentations.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to refine data collection methodologies and improve overall data quality.
- Analyze data trends and provide insights to inform future robotics development and operational strategies.
- Participate in the design and implementation of new data collection protocols to enhance the efficiency of our operations.
- Maintain comprehensive documentation of processes, ensuring that all procedures are clearly outlined and easily accessible.
- Engage in continuous learning and professional development to stay updated on the latest advancements in robotics and data operations.
- Contribute to the overall strategic direction of the Data Operations Engineering team as it grows and evolves.
Requirements
- Proven expertise in soldering and cable assembly techniques.
- Familiarity with motion capture systems, particularly Vicon or OptiTrack.
- Experience in data annotation specifically related to robotics or autonomous vehicles.
- Strong understanding of quality assurance processes for both hardware and software.
- Knowledge of 3D scanning and 3D printing technologies.
- Background in data collection or human-subjects research methodologies.
- Proficiency in AR/VR development or production environments.
- Programming skills in Python, Java, or similar languages.
- Understanding of LIDAR technology and robotics platforms, including sensor control.
- Comfort with using the Linux command line for various tasks.
- Experience with software tools such as Blender or Unity for modeling and simulation.
- Ability to produce and maintain detailed documentation and standard operating procedures.
- High level of independence in troubleshooting issues and enhancing processes.
Nice to have
- Experience in film or television production, providing a unique perspective on visual storytelling.
- Background in game development, which can contribute to innovative approaches in robotics.
- A keen interest in humanoid robotics and the application of machine learning techniques to analyze human movement.
