What you'll do
- Develop, implement, and maintain comprehensive safety policies and procedures in accordance with local, state, and federal regulations.
- Conduct regular safety audits and inspections to identify potential hazards and ensure compliance with safety standards.
- Lead safety training sessions for employees at all levels, promoting awareness and understanding of safety practices and protocols.
- Collaborate with various departments to assess safety risks and develop strategies to mitigate them effectively.
- Investigate accidents and incidents, documenting findings and recommending corrective actions to prevent future occurrences.
- Maintain accurate records of safety-related incidents, training sessions, and compliance documentation for regulatory reporting.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for safety-related inquiries and concerns from employees and management.
- Stay updated on industry trends, regulations, and best practices in safety management to continuously improve our safety programs.
- Facilitate safety committees and meetings, encouraging employee participation and feedback on safety initiatives.
- Develop emergency response plans and conduct drills to ensure preparedness for potential safety incidents.
- Monitor and analyze safety performance metrics, providing reports and recommendations to senior management.
- Foster a culture of safety within the organization, encouraging employees to prioritize safety in their daily activities.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Occupational Safety, Environmental Science, or a related field.
- A minimum of 5 years of experience in safety management or a related role, preferably in a construction or manufacturing environment.
- Strong knowledge of OSHA regulations and other relevant safety standards.
- Proven experience in conducting safety audits and risk assessments.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage and influence employees at all levels.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, with attention to detail.
- Certification in safety management (e.g., CSP, CIH) is highly desirable.
- Proficient in using safety management software and tools for reporting and documentation.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team environment.
Nice to have
- Experience in developing and implementing safety training programs.
- Familiarity with environmental regulations and sustainability practices.
- Previous experience in a leadership role within a safety department.
- Knowledge of first aid and CPR certification.
- Bilingual proficiency in English and Spanish is a plus.
Skills & tools
The successful candidate will be proficient in various safety management tools and software, including incident reporting systems, risk assessment software, and training management platforms. Strong skills in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) are essential for reporting and presentations. Familiarity with data analysis tools will be beneficial for monitoring safety performance metrics and trends.
Practical notes
This position is based in Charlotte, North Carolina, and may require occasional travel to job sites or other company locations. The Safety Manager will report directly to the Director of Operations and will work closely with other department heads to ensure a cohesive approach to safety management.
