About the role

FAR.AI is a non-profit AI research institute dedicated to ensuring advanced AI is safe and beneficial for everyone, operating at the intersection of machine learning, safety research, and policy. As a Senior Programs & Strategy Manager, you will own the intellectual integrity and strategic direction of our portfolio of high-impact events, ensuring each gathering has a clear purpose and actionable outcomes. You will design and curate event agendas, proactively identify and recruit the most relevant speakers and participants, and steward the conversations initiated at our events so they continue to generate value long after the sessions end. You will serve as the primary content owner across our diverse programme slate, bringing coherence and ambition to a growing and varied collection of workshops, conferences, and partner convenings. In this role, you will work hand-in-hand with our in-house research team and external collaborators to pressure-test content decisions and take bold, well-justified swings on emerging topics and innovative formats. You will translate complex strategic visions into practical event designs and participant experiences, reporting directly to Lindsay Murachver, Head of Programs, to advance the field-building mission of FAR.AI.

What you'll do

Design and own the content framing for each event in the FAR.AI portfolio, developing event theory of change documents, briefing notes, and speaker materials that establish a clear intellectual spine for every gathering.

Propose speakers and attendees with genuine judgment about who will move a conversation forward, looking beyond prominence to identify individuals who can catalyze meaningful progress.

Read a draft speaker list and immediately identify critical gaps, then read a draft agenda and rapidly pinpoint structural or conceptual weaknesses before an event is finalized.

Ensure programming reflects the current state of the AI safety field and anticipates future directions, collaborating closely with FAR.AI's in-house research team to pressure-test content decisions and validate strategic choices.

Take considered bets on emerging topics and innovative formats, and construct a clear, evidence-based intellectual case for why these choices will enhance the event's impact.

Own the end-to-end participant targeting strategy for each event, identifying the specific stakeholders, expertise, and perspectives required to achieve concrete objectives and ensure the right mix of attendees in the room.

Lead the speaker invitation and engagement process, drafting outreach, managing speaker preparation, and confirming that speakers are positioned to contribute substantively to the event's goals.

Produce written content that extends the reach and impact of FAR.AI's events, including framing documents, research summaries, speaker briefings, and high-quality post-event reports that capture key insights and next steps.

Act as the content ownership liaison across programme tracks, coordinating with program leads to maintain coherence and quality across the diverse slate of workshops, conferences, and partner convenings.

Develop participant strategies for each event, defining the expertise and perspectives needed to meet objectives and shaping the attendee sourcing and invitation process to build a genuinely valuable participant cohort.

Coordinate closely with the Head of Programs, the in-house research team, and external partners to ensure event visions are translated thoughtfully into participant-facing platforms, communications, and materials.

Partner with the Senior Programs Manager and Infrastructure Specialist to design participant-facing experiences and communications that accurately reflect the event vision and logistical requirements.

Manage multiple concurrent event workstreams, balancing competing timelines, stakeholder expectations, and deliverables to ensure smooth execution across the annual programme.

Synthesize insights from each event to inform future programming decisions, using participant feedback, discussion outputs, and observed outcomes to refine the strategy and impact of the portfolio.

Represent FAR.AI in external discussions related to event content, speaker sourcing, and strategic partnerships, reinforcing the institute's reputation for rigorous and influential convening.

Requirements

Bring 8+ years of progressively responsible experience in programs, strategy, policy, or a related field where you have designed and managed complex events or initiatives.

Hold a Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience; a Master's degree or PhD in a relevant field is strongly preferred and may substitute for years of experience.

Demonstrate a track record of delivering high-quality programs in a fast-paced, mission-driven environment, with evidence of managing multiple priorities and tight deadlines.

Show strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to synthesize complex ideas, write clearly and persuasively, and engage effectively with senior researchers and practitioners.

Possess excellent judgment and discretion when handling sensitive topics, confidential information, and high-stakes conversations with researchers and institutional partners.

Have experience working at the intersection of technology, policy, and research, with a deep understanding of AI safety, machine learning, and the broader technical landscape.

Be comfortable working fully remotely in a US-based role and proficient with digital collaboration tools to coordinate across time zones and organizational boundaries.

Be comfortable with a dynamic, rapidly evolving environment where priorities shift quickly and you must adapt your plans while maintaining attention to detail and strategic coherence.

Nice to have

Experience organizing technical AI safety events, workshops, or conferences, with a portfolio that demonstrates your ability to curate high-quality, intellectually rigorous programming.

Familiarity with the AI safety community, including key researchers, institutions, and ongoing debates, as well as prior engagement with leading AI labs or research organizations.

Experience developing theory of change documents, briefing notes, and other strategic materials that translate complex ideas into coherent program frameworks.

A background in policy or advocacy that strengthens your ability to engage with government institutions and translate technical findings into actionable recommendations.

Experience supporting the growth of a technical community through grant programs, cohort management, or targeted outreach to underrepresented groups in AI research.

This is a full-time remote position based in the United States.
