About the role
You will own the end to end communications strategy for FAR.AI, defining the narrative arc that explains our research, events, and governance priorities to global audiences. You will shape how AI capabilities, risks, and solutions are understood by policymakers, industry leaders, and the broader public, ensuring our messaging is credible, accessible, and actionable. You will take direct ownership of the communications function, leading a team of four experts and setting the standard for content quality, editorial judgment, and media integrity. You will leverage our events and research programs to amplify our technical credibility and ensure our work reaches the decision makers who can act on it. You will design and execute bold, evidence based campaigns that reframe the AI conversation around responsible development and deployment. You will manage a substantial budget to drive measurable impact and build a communications division that can scale with our mission. What you'll do
Lead the development and execution of a comprehensive communications strategy that translates complex AI research into clear narratives for diverse stakeholders.
Champion the responsible development and deployment of AI by articulating risks, tradeoffs, and safeguards through rigorous, evidence based storytelling.
Own the content pipeline, overseeing editorial direction, narrative frameworks, and the production of long form reports, briefings, and public statements.
Shape media relations and public engagement, securing high profile placements in outlets such as the Financial Times, Nature News, and MIT Technology Review to amplify our credibility.
Coordinate closely with the research and events teams to integrate communications into ongoing initiatives, including pre deployment testing and evaluations for leading AI developers and governments.
Build and maintain relationships with key decision makers in government and industry, ensuring our insights directly inform policy debates and strategic choices.
Manage and grow a team of four communications experts, fostering a collaborative environment that encourages creativity, rigor, and continuous learning.
Oversee a multimillion dollar annual budget, allocating resources to maximize reach, impact, and measurable outcomes for our communications programs.
Expand our thought leadership through targeted campaigns, including flagship products such as a leaderboard on AI model security that supports informed decision making.
Act as a trusted advisor to senior leadership, including the CEO, translating technical work into strategic communication opportunities and safeguarding the integrity of our public voice.
Cultivate partnerships with academic institutions, media outlets, and civil society organizations to broaden the reach and depth of our messaging.
Ensure all communications align with our mission of facilitating breakthrough AI safety research and fostering a coordinated global response.
Leverage data and audience insights to refine messaging, optimize channel performance, and demonstrate the tangible impact of communications initiatives.
Promote transparency and public understanding of AI capabilities and risks, avoiding hype while clearly conveying scenarios that warrant serious concern.
Requirements
You must have a proven track record in communications leadership within technology, policy, or global impact sectors, with experience managing teams and budgets of similar scale.
You must demonstrate expertise in media relations, content strategy, and narrative development, with a portfolio that includes high visibility placements in reputable outlets.
You must have a deep understanding of AI safety, technical research, and the policy landscape surrounding advanced AI systems and their governance.
You must be comfortable working with technical researchers and translating complex findings into accessible formats for non specialist audiences.
You must have strong judgment and discretion, given the sensitivity and potential impact of AI related communications.
You must be highly proficient in written and verbal communication, with exceptional storytelling skills and an ability to synthesize dense information into clear arguments.
You must have experience coordinating cross functionally with research, events, and product teams to integrate communications into broader initiatives.
You must be comfortable operating in a fast paced, mission driven environment where priorities evolve based on emerging research and policy developments.
Nice to have
Experience working with non profit research organizations or mission driven institutions focused on long term technological risk.
Background in policy or government engagement on AI related issues.
Experience building and managing editorial calendars and content distribution strategies.
Familiarity with AI technical concepts such as model evaluation, alignment, and safety testing.
Practical notes
This is a full time remote role open to international candidates.
The position involves significant collaboration with global stakeholders and may require travel to key events and meetings as needed.
