Software Engineer
Job description
About the role
You will own the full lifecycle of machine learning solutions from initial discovery through to secure production deployment. You will translate ambiguous client requirements into concrete technical specifications and deliver high-impact AI products. You will design scalable architectures that ensure models remain robust, maintainable, and aligned with client objectives. You will act as a hands-on technical leader, mentoring less experienced engineers and elevating the standard of code across the team. You will champion responsible AI practices, embedding safety and reliability into every component you build. You will communicate complex technical concepts clearly to both technical collaborators and non-technical stakeholders. You will continuously explore emerging techniques and tools to keep solutions at the forefront of real-world performance.
Key facts
What you'll do
Architect and build production-grade machine learning systems that solve demanding client problems. Design reusable components and libraries to accelerate the delivery of reliable ML pipelines across multiple projects. Partner closely with data scientists to translate experimental models into scalable, maintainable software. Lead technical scoping sessions and define system architectures that balance performance, cost, and risk. Implement and enforce deployment standards that ensure machine learning models are observable, secure, and robust. Serve as a trusted technical advisor, explaining model behavior, trade-offs, and limitations to diverse stakeholders. Evaluate and integrate cloud-native services and infrastructure to support resilient and efficient ML workflows. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to align technical delivery with commercial timelines and client expectations. Drive best practices in versioning, testing, and monitoring for machine learning throughout the software lifecycle. Troubleshoot complex production issues, conducting root cause analysis and implementing resilient fixes.
Requirements
You understand the full machine learning lifecycle and have experience operationalising models built with frameworks like Scikit-learn, TensorFlow, or PyTorch. You possess strong Python skills and solid experience in software engineering best practices. You bring hands-on experience with cloud platforms and infrastructure (e.g., AWS, Azure, GCP), including architecture and security. You have worked with container and orchestration tools such as Docker & Kubernetes to build and manage applications at scale. You are comfortable with core ML concepts, including probability, statistics, and common learning techniques. You are an excellent communicator, able to guide technical teams and confidently advise non-technical stakeholders. You thrive in a fast-paced environment, and enjoy the autonomy to own scope, solve problems, and deliver solutions. You may need to be eligible for UK Developed Vetting (DV) and willing to work on site with our clients from time to time.
