The Senior Database Administrator role is responsible for architecting and operating the data foundation that powers 1Exiger, owning the end-to-end lifecycle management of transactional, analytical, and AI workloads. This position requires hands-on responsibility for performance, scale, high availability, backup, disaster recovery, and multi-region strategies across cloud and air-gapped environments. You will directly enable vector search, embeddings, and RAG pipelines while ensuring strict compliance with FedRAMP High and federal data handling standards. The role involves close collaboration with security, AI/ML, and platform teams to support product innovation and operational resilience. You will mentor engineers and DBAs on scalable, cost-aware, and compliance-ready data practices. This is not a traditional DBA role; it is a foundational position shaping the future of Sovereign AI and data infrastructure at Exiger.
What you'll do
You will architect, operate, and optimize Exiger's cloud data platforms across AWS commercial, AWS GovCloud, and future IL5/IL6 air-gapped environments. You will own performance, scale, high availability, backup, disaster recovery, and multi-region strategies across transactional, analytical, and AI workloads. You will build and support AI-native data infrastructure for 1Exiger, including vector search, embeddings, RAG pipelines, inference telemetry, evaluation data, and agent memory. You will ensure data security, encryption, access control, auditability, lineage, retention, and CUI handling meet FedRAMP High and federal customer requirements. You will partner with security teams on POA and AMP remediation, vulnerability management, control evidence, and continuous monitoring. You will drive cost optimization, modernization, and consolidation across legacy and cloud data estates using FinOps and open data architecture principles. You will promote DevOps best practices, including infrastructure as code, automated schema migrations, CI/CD integration, and feature-flag-gated releases. You will mentor engineers and DBAs on scalable, cost-aware, compliance-ready data architecture.
Requirements
You bring 8+ years of database administration experience with increasing ownership of cloud data architecture. You have deep expertise in cloud database design, performance tuning, and operations on AWS, including RDS and Aurora. You have hands-on implementation and optimization of PostgreSQL, MySQL, and SQL Server in both commercial and government cloud environments. You have extensive experience with analytics and lakehouse platforms such as Snowflake, S3, Iceberg, Trino, and Athena. You have a strong background building and operating AI data infrastructure, including vector search, pgvector, embeddings, and RAG pipelines. You demonstrate the ability to secure, audit, and govern regulated data, including CUI, with strict adherence to FedRAMP High controls. You have experience with Terraform or Pulumi for infrastructure as code and GitLab or GitHub pipelines for CI/CD. You have a proven commitment to DevOps practices, automated schema migrations, and feature-flag-driven releases.
