About the role

This position places you aboard the F/T Alaska Ocean, where you will directly convert raw fish into a frozen-at-sea finished product while maintaining the highest standards of safety and quality. You will sort fish by species, size, and condition, ensuring each batch meets strict specifications before moving forward. You will package, weigh, and label every product unit, carefully tracking details that preserve integrity from the ocean to storage. You will manage the loading and unloading of plate freezers, keeping inventory organized and secure throughout the voyage. You will operate and clean factory equipment with precision, helping to sustain efficient and reliable production cycles. You will assist in offloading frozen product to warehouse teams and support the loading and unloading of all supplies needed on board. You will share living and working spaces with other crew members, including quarters, dining areas, and bathrooms, requiring cooperation and respect at all times.

Operate and clean factory equipment to support continuous production and reduce downtime caused by mechanical issues.

Offload frozen product to warehouse teams in a timely and coordinated manner.

Load and unload other supplies on the vessel, verifying inventory and handling materials with care.

Share spaces with others including crew quarters, dining areas, and bathrooms, requiring adaptability and respect.

Follow fast-paced routines that require sustained focus and physical output over long production cycles.

Support vessel operations by maintaining a clean and orderly work environment that promotes safety for all crew.

Communicate effectively with team members to ensure workflow continuity and respond to immediate needs.

Adhere to all safety and quality policies and regulations of the vessel and company to protect personnel and product.

Demonstrate reliability by fulfilling contractual commitments for extended periods at sea without interruption.

Assist with basic inventory checks and equipment readiness checks to support smooth daily operations.

Contribute to the overall success of the voyage by maintaining discipline, professionalism, and teamwork.

Requirements

High school diploma or equivalent is mandatory for this position.

You must possess 2+ years of commercial fishing experience OR 1+ year of experience performing physical work in a demanding environment.

You must be capable of lifting up to 50 lbs. repetitively without compromising safety or product quality.

You must be able to work 16 hour shifts, 7 days a week, demonstrating consistent performance under fatigue.

You must be able to work in a cold and wet environment for extended periods while maintaining focus and safety.

You must be able to perform fast paced, repetitive tasks for long durations without sacrificing accuracy.

You must be capable of boarding and exiting a vessel without assistance by climbing up or down gangplank, or by using a Jacob's ladder.

You must be capable of understanding and following specific English written, oral, and visual directions and instructions in the event of an emergency.

You must adhere to all safety and quality policies and regulations of the vessel and company at all times.

You must be able to share room assignments and bathroom facilities and eat in common dining areas with other crew members.

You must be capable of working and living on board a vessel for extended periods of time, up to 65 days without having access to immediate medical assistance except for first aid.

Nice to have

Knowledge of factory trawler operations and conditions is preferred and may help you perform more effectively in this role.

Practical notes

This role requires a one trip contract commitment to begin, with the possibility of extension based on performance and operational needs. Free room and board are provided as part of the compensation package, and additional benefits such as a 401K, health and dental coverage after eligibility, and crew share arrangements are available. You must be prepared for long hours, physically demanding work, and living in a shared environment isolated from typical shore-side routines.
