Key facts
What you'll do
Architect the logical and physical structure of our server-side systems to align with evolving product requirements.
Develop new features and services using the .Net framework, ensuring they integrate seamlessly with our existing platform.
Refactor legacy code to improve maintainability, performance, and clarity for future development cycles.
Collaborate closely with server teams to diagnose infrastructure bottlenecks and implement targeted improvements.
Optimize application components for high traffic loads while maintaining strict standards for reliability and uptime.
Lead the evaluation and adoption of new technologies that can enhance our service capabilities and developer experience.
Write clean, testable code that adheres to internal standards and supports long term system stability.
Document technical designs and implementation details to ensure knowledge sharing and continuity across the team.
Mentor junior developers by providing code reviews, technical advice, and hands-on guidance on best practices.
Participate in on-call rotations to support production systems and respond to critical incidents as they arise.
Champion the use of data and metrics to drive decisions around performance tuning and infrastructure scaling.
Represent the team externally through technical blogs, conference talks, and contributions to open source projects.
Requirements
You must possess a minimum of 5 years of professional experience as a software engineer in a production environment.
You must demonstrate deep and practical knowledge of the Java programming language and its core libraries.
You must have direct experience designing and maintaining high traffic, scalable web applications that serve real users.
You must have a solid understanding of fundamental data structures, algorithms, and how frameworks operate internally.
You must be able to speak and write technical information clearly and concisely to both technical and non-technical audiences.
You must be able to think creatively about solutions while always focusing on the long term stability of the system.
You must be comfortable working in a fast-paced environment where priorities can shift based on business needs.
You must have a proven track record of delivering software that is reliable, maintainable, and performant under load.
Nice to have
Experience with Service Oriented Architecture (SOA) and designing distributed systems.
Experience with at least one relational database (e.g. MySQL) and one NoSQL database (e.g. Cassandra).
Familiarity with asynchronous messaging systems, such as Kafka and ActiveMQ.
Hands on DevOps experience including containerization, orchestration, and cloud infrastructure management.
Practical notes
This role may require working outside standard UK business hours to support global deployments.
Travel to our London office is required on a regular basis for team collaboration and planning sessions.
Candidates must be eligible to work in the United Kingdom without sponsorship for this position.
