What you'll do
Investigate and analyze suspicious transaction patterns across banking channels to identify indicators of fraud, money laundering, and other financial crimes.
Perform in-depth case assessments using intelligence-based techniques, documenting findings, decisions, and rationales in a clear and auditable format.
Develop and maintain detection logic, risk scoring models, and rule sets in collaboration with analytics and product teams to improve monitoring effectiveness.
Liaise with internal departments, including compliance, legal, and technology, to coordinate responses to emerging threats and ensure timely escalation.
Support the design and delivery of training materials that enhance fraud awareness and investigation skills across the organization.
Monitor and evaluate the performance of fraud controls, providing insights and recommendations based on trend analysis and outcome metrics.
Conduct interviews and gather evidence from internal and external sources to build comprehensive case narratives that inform decision-making.
Collaborate with third-party partners and law enforcement agencies when required, maintaining professionalism and adherence to regulatory expectations.
Maintain current knowledge of fraud typologies, regulatory obligations, and industry best practices through continuous learning and professional development.
Contribute to the ongoing refinement of EQ Bank's fraud program standards, ensuring alignment with strategic objectives and regulatory frameworks.
Provide subject matter expertise to guide the development of policies, procedures, and controls that mitigate fraud risk across all business lines.
Support the implementation of new tools and technologies that enhance the efficiency, accuracy, and scalability of fraud investigations.
Assist in preparing reports and summaries for internal and external stakeholders, balancing technical detail with clarity for diverse audiences.
Promote a culture of integrity and accountability by modeling ethical behavior and adherence to EQ Bank's values, policies, and standards in every investigation.
Requirements
You must hold Canadian citizenship or permanent residency to be considered for this role.
You possess a bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
You have a minimum of three years of experience in fraud investigation, financial crime prevention, or a related risk discipline.
You demonstrate a strong understanding of anti-money laundering principles, know-your-customer frameworks, and suspicious transaction reporting requirements.
You are proficient in analyzing complex data sets and using investigative tools to identify patterns, anomalies, and potential indicators of fraud.
You have experience working with financial institutions, payment systems, or banking platforms.
You show a solid grasp of regulatory obligations, compliance standards, and the impact of fraud on financial institutions and customers.
You communicate effectively, both in writing and verbally, and can explain technical concepts to non-specialist stakeholders.
You are highly organized, able to manage multiple investigations simultaneously while maintaining attention to detail and accuracy.
You exhibit strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to assess risk, draw logical conclusions, and support decision-making.
You are comfortable working in a fast-paced environment and adapting to changing priorities, technologies, and regulatory expectations.
You collaborate well within cross-functional teams and are willing to share knowledge and mentor colleagues where appropriate.
You have access to reliable transportation to attend meetings or interviews in person within the Greater Toronto Area when necessary.

You have a background in law enforcement, regulatory bodies, or national security-related roles.
You hold professional certifications such as Certified Anti-Money Laundering Specialist (CAMS) or similar designations.
You have experience with fraud detection platforms, case management software, or data visualization tools.
You are familiar with emerging fraud risks in digital banking, e-commerce, or open banking environments.
You have a track record of process improvement or internal control enhancements in previous roles.
Practical notes
This is a full-time position based in Toronto with standard business hours.
