What you'll do
Conduct initial data validation checks to ensure the accuracy and completeness of transaction-level information used in risk assessments.
Support the implementation and testing of automated controls aligned with IFRS 9 standards through the use of artificial intelligence and scripting solutions.
Perform routine monitoring activities to verify that credit risk indicators are being tracked according to internal governance frameworks.
Assist in the configuration and maintenance of tools used by Credit Risk Analysts to monitor portfolio health and performance metrics.
Collaborate with QA teams to document and validate the effectiveness of automated processes within the retail lending quality assurance environment.
Execute testing protocols on new AI tools to confirm they meet the required risk management and compliance standards before deployment.
Review control documentation to identify gaps and support the creation of clear process maps for risk workflows.
Help prepare reports that summarize testing results and control outcomes for internal risk management reviews.
Contribute to the identification of operational efficiencies by suggesting improvements to existing risk monitoring procedures.
Support the development of training materials to ensure consistent application of risk policies across the Credit Risk department.
Assist in the reconciliation of data sets to verify that risk models are operating on accurate and up-to-date information.
Participate in project meetings to understand how credit risk initiatives align with the broader business strategy of the bank.
Maintain organized records of testing activities and findings in accordance with the bank's internal audit and risk management standards.
Support the execution of ad hoc analysis requested by Credit Risk Managers to address emerging risk considerations.
Requirements
Currently enrolled in a degree program at a recognized post-secondary institution.
Eligible to return to your academic program following the completion of the internship term.
Pursuing a degree in a quantitative field such as Finance, Accounting, Mathematics, Statistics, Economics, or a related discipline.
Demonstrated ability to analyze complex information and translate it into clear, concise summaries.
Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including the use of formulas, pivot tables, and data manipulation functions.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills to interact effectively with cross-functional stakeholders.
A keen attention to detail with the ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritize workloads in a fast-paced setting.
Willingness to learn and adapt to new technologies, processes, and regulatory requirements quickly.
Ability to work independently and take ownership of assigned tasks while meeting established deadlines.
Compliance with EQ Bank's policies, including adherence to security and data privacy protocols.
Nice to have
Previous experience with scripting or programming languages such as Python or R.
Exposure to risk management frameworks or financial regulation concepts.
Familiarity with data visualization tools or platforms used in financial reporting.

Practical notes
This is a student position with a duration aligned to academic terms, typically requiring a commitment of approximately 20 to 30 hours per week.
The role is based in Toronto, and the intern is expected to work from the office location to ensure seamless integration with the team.
