Senior Game Security Programmer
Job description
About the role
At Epic Games, the ECOSEC team is dedicated to providing a safer experience for our users. We work across multiple products and services to improve technology and craft transparent policies so our players and users can have positive experiences on our platforms. As a Senior Game Security Programmer, you will play a critical role in this mission by focusing on anti-cheat capabilities that directly support Fortnite and the many creators who depend on it. This position is centered on designing, building, and maintaining backend services and game code that keep our platform secure, fair, and reliable for millions of players worldwide.
What you'll do
You will design and build new backend services or features that power Fortnite anti-cheat or related security capabilities, as well as implementing corresponding game code. A core part of the role involves reading, debugging, and writing code for Fortnite in C++ and associated backend services in Go. You will proactively seek out vulnerable components in the Fortnite game client or backend, then clearly communicate the problem and recommended solution, implementing it as appropriate, and influencing others to maintain a security oriented mindset. You will also debug, modify, and optimize existing security systems for both the Fortnite game client and backend components.
Ensuring that Fortnite operates well for players and that our services are resilient at scale is essential. You will assist in diagnosing and resolving Live issues as they arise. In addition, you will collaborate with cross-functional teams to define, implement, and iterate on security strategies that align with product and platform goals. You will analyze telemetry and security data to identify patterns, anomalies, and potential threats, driving improvements in detection and prevention. You will contribute to the development of tools and frameworks that enable efficient and secure development workflows for security-related features.
Participating in code reviews and design discussions will help uphold high standards of security, performance, and reliability. You will mentor and guide junior engineers by sharing knowledge, best practices, and insights related to game security and backend systems. Working closely with product managers, game designers, and infrastructure teams will allow you to translate security requirements into robust technical solutions. You will support on-call responsibilities to respond to security incidents and ensure timely mitigation of risks. Evaluating emerging security threats and technologies will be part of your ongoing work, allowing you to recommend adaptations that maintain a strong security posture. You will also partner with external teams and stakeholders to align security practices with platform policies and industry standards, continuously refining processes to improve the reliability, scalability, and maintainability of security systems.
Requirements
To be successful in this role, you will need a BSc in Computer Science/Software Programming or related subject, though candidates without a degree are welcome as long as they have proven extensive hands-on experience. You must have excellent knowledge and debugging skills in the C++ programming language, along with fluency in Go, Java, C#, or similar programming language. A self starter mindset is essential, as you will approach challenges creatively and methodically, seeing them through to final resolution.
You should具备 the ability to code and design system frameworks, new APIs, and tools, and be versed in standard software programming principles. A solid understanding of online multiplayer video game architectures is required, along with a technical understanding of the structure and technology stacks of online service backends. Your profile should reflect a user-focused, passionate, solutions focused, and innovative approach, as these traits equal success at Epic and influence everything we do.
This role is open to multiple locations in North America, including Washington.
