Senior Language Programmer
Job description
Programming - Unreal Engine
What We Do
Unreal-powered projects have been on the bleeding edge of real-time entertainment for over 20 years. Our team of programming experts are always innovating to improve the tools and technology that empower content developers worldwide.
What You'll Do
Epic Games is seeking an experienced Senior Language Programmer to join our Verse team, which owns the toolchain (compiler, VM, and runtime) that powers game development in Unreal Engine and UEFN. You'll work on the systems every UE and UEFN developer relies on to build and ship games with Verse.
- Extend, evolve, and maintain the Verse compiler toolchain and VM, implementing new language features and integrating with Unreal Engine's content, build, and cooking pipelines.
- Optimize performance, memory usage, and iteration times across the Verse toolchain and UE/Verse boundary.
- Work closely with language consumers to ensure an exceptional user experience.
- Establish test workflows to validate improvements and prevent regressions.
- Design and maintain the scripting interface to Unreal Engine, working in close collaboration with the Verse Language team and the broader UE programming organization.
What We're Looking For
- Expert knowledge of C++17 or later.
- Experience in language compiler and toolchain development, including compiler internals and VM design.
- Experience developing and optimizing large codebases, making tradeoffs between usability, performance, and power.
- Strong ability to reason about large, interconnected systems.
- Solid grounding in software programming principles, including API design.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills across programming teams.
- Ability to work autonomously and deliver practical solutions.
- Experience with both compiler internals and Unreal Engine integration is a plus.
What You'll Get
Epic Job + Epic Benefits = Epic Life
We pay 100% for benefits for both employees and dependents and offer coverage for supplemental medical, dental, vision, critical illness, telemedicine, Life and AD&D, long term disability insurance as well as weekly indemnity (short term disability) and a retirement savings plan with a competitive employer match. In addition to the EAP (employee assistance program), we also offer a robust mental well-being program through Modern Health, which provides free therapy and coaching for employees & dependents.
