About the role
You will apply deep knowledge of operating system internals to detect and prevent the latest cheating techniques across a diverse portfolio of games. You will champion Linux anti-cheat capabilities for Epic and its partners, driving forward platform-level security initiatives. The role requires you to reverse engineer sophisticated cheats and other malicious software to understand and neutralize threats. You will actively seek out the next opportunity to make a measurable improvement to our security posture. You will communicate regularly with internal and external game developers to understand unique needs and align security solutions. You will build a strong overall understanding of our game security systems to ensure reliability and scalability. You will work closely with anti-cheat data analysts to quickly iterate on new techniques and validate hypotheses in live environments.

What you'll do
Investigate and analyze complex cheating methods using advanced reverse engineering skills on x86-64 binaries.
Design and implement robust detection mechanisms that operate efficiently within live game environments without impacting player experience.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate security features into online services such as matchmaking, voice chat, and analytics.
Leverage expertise in Linux and Windows OS internals to develop anti-cheat solutions that function seamlessly across multiple platforms.
Monitor and interpret data from anti-cheat systems in partnership with data analysts to identify emerging threats and trends.
Develop tools and utilities that automate parts of the security testing and validation workflow for internal and external customers.
Champion the adoption of new security practices and technologies across the organization and within the wider developer community.
Ensure all implemented solutions comply with Epic's standards for performance, stability, and minimal invasiveness to the player experience.
Maintain detailed technical documentation for security procedures, protocols, and architectural decisions to support long-term maintenance.
Participate in on-call rotations to respond to critical security incidents affecting live game services around the clock.
Contribute to the broader security community by publishing research findings and presenting at industry conferences when appropriate.
Continuously evaluate open-source tools and third-party libraries to determine their suitability for integration into the anti-cheat ecosystem.
Work closely with product managers to define security requirements for new features and online services from the earliest stages of development.
Provide technical mentorship to junior engineers and interns, fostering a culture of security awareness and continuous learning.
Requirements
Expert knowledge of C/C++ in a security environment is essential for developing and analyzing low-level anti-cheat components.
Deep knowledge of Linux and Windows OS internals is required to understand how applications interact with the kernel and underlying hardware.
Familiarity with development and security practices on Linux and Windows is necessary to ensure secure and efficient implementation.
Experience debugging and reverse engineering x86-64 binaries is a hard requirement for analyzing malicious software and exploits.
Understanding of online multiplayer video game architectures is mandatory to design security solutions that integrate correctly with networked services.
Experience working with data analytics to solve, prevent, or monitor problems at scale is required to derive insights from telemetry and logs.
Understanding of code obfuscation techniques is required to evaluate anti-tampering measures and improve detection capabilities.
Ability to obtain and maintain US work authorization is required for this position located in Cary, North Carolina.
