Principal Engineer, Core Product
Job description
About the role
In this position, you will take charge of the architecture and execution of our Core Product, focusing on our agent-driven engine and related systems. You will collaborate closely with various teams to translate product strategies into actionable technical plans while mentoring other engineers and ensuring high-quality outcomes.
Key facts
What you'll do
- Lead the architectural design for Wisdom and Agents, our engine that processes unstructured customer feedback into structured insights. This role involves working with production-level agent and machine learning infrastructure.
- Develop phased technical plans that align with product goals, including estimates, milestones, and risk assessments.
- Evaluate trade-offs among factors such as accuracy, latency, user experience, AI behavior, reliability, cost, and delivery timelines, and be prepared to justify your decisions.
- Establish clear responsibility boundaries across frontend, backend, and agent workflows, ensuring clarity in data contracts.
- Review engineering and product documents, identifying any missing technical or product details to prevent execution issues.
- Facilitate planning in your areas of responsibility while empowering area leads and senior engineers to maintain ownership of their projects.
- Collaborate closely with Product, Design, Engineering, and GTM teams to clarify complex problem statements and contribute to product direction.
- Mentor senior engineers and influence their work without relying on formal authority, while remaining hands-on to review code and manage implementation risks.
Requirements
- Over 8 years of experience in a Staff or Principal engineering role, with a strong focus on architecture and execution for multi-team projects.
- Proven experience in owning the architecture and execution of complex product or platform initiatives.
- Solid understanding of distributed systems, with knowledge across agent systems, machine learning engineering, ML platforms, and frontend architecture. This role requires a broad skill set to tackle end-to-end product challenges.
- Demonstrated ability to convert ambiguity into clear engineering plans, supported by strong written communication in design documents and trade-off analyses.
- Experience mentoring and guiding engineers without relying on formal authority.
- Ability to constructively challenge requirements across Product, Design, Engineering, and GTM, with a focus on detail and a collaborative mindset.
