Senior Product Design
Job description
About the role
You will own the end-to-end design of core product areas for Dust's AI operating system, tackling ambiguous and undefined problems that have no established market patterns. You will discover, frame, and shape solutions for how humans collaborate with AI agents at scale, partnering closely with world-class engineers to translate complex technical possibilities into elegant user experiences. This role demands that you balance strategic product thinking with meticulous UI craft to define interaction models that do not yet exist. You will measure the impact of your designs and iterate based on real usage data from our enterprise customers. You will also be responsible for raising the bar across the design organization by mentoring junior designers with a no-ego, solution-first mindset. Ultimately, your work will directly influence how Dust lands with customers and rewires how some of the fastest-moving companies operate.
Key facts
What you'll do
- Own end-to-end product areas from discovery through delivery, defining problems, exploring solutions, shipping designs, and measuring impact.
- Lead product discovery by conducting user research, analyzing behavior, and framing ambiguous problems into actionable design opportunities.
- Create exceptional user interfaces that balance simplicity with powerful functionality in a complex, AI-driven product environment.
- Partner deeply with engineering to understand technical constraints, explore feasibility, and influence implementation decisions in a highly technical setting.
- Shape product direction by clearly presenting your work, building conviction with stakeholders, and advocating for user needs across the organization.
- Contribute across disciplines when necessary, including research, prototyping, brand work, and light code contributions in a startup-first, hands-on culture.
- Raise the bar for the broader design organization by providing guidance to less experienced designers with a "no-ego, do-what-it-takes" attitude.
- Iterate quickly based on user feedback and real-world usage, ensuring your designs drive adoption among customers like Datadog, 1Password, Cursor, Clay, and Vanta.
- Define interaction patterns for AI agents and collaborative workflows that do not yet have established design precedents.
- Maintain a relentless focus on outcomes, ensuring your designs meaningfully contribute to product adoption and weekly active user growth.
Requirements
You must have a strong background in discovery and product thinking, framing design problems by understanding user needs, business constraints, and technical possibilities. You ask sharp questions that reveal insights others miss and know when to explore broadly versus converge on solutions. You must demonstrate exceptional UI craft, creating polished and thoughtful interfaces that balance aesthetics with usability in a complex environment. Your portfolio should show end-to-end thinking, not just isolated pretty screens, and you must understand how details compound within systems. You must be an excellent communicator, able to articulate your thinking clearly by explaining the why behind decisions, not just the what. You must present work confidently and handle feedback constructively while navigating ambiguity in a fast-moving, technical environment. You must be comfortable working alongside world-class engineers from companies like Stripe and OpenAI, respecting technical constraints and exploring what is possible. You must thrive in a product-first culture that focuses on delightful experiences with existing large language models rather than building foundation models yourself. You must be proactive in solving problems, such as seeing something broken and fixing it without waiting for permission. You must align with a culture of shipping to learn, moving fast, and adapting quickly based on real user data and feedback. You must practice intellectual humility, holding strong convictions loosely and adapting swiftly when new data emerges.

Practical notes
Work is being rewritten, and the people holding the pen are the ones who actually run it. Dust is backed by Sequoia with a determined team of optimists coming from Stripe, OpenAI, and Stanford. We are serving great customers such as Datadog, 1Password, Cursor, Clay, and Vanta, and we aim to x5 our growth by the end of 2026. We are at an exciting stage of our journey, and we are growing fast. With 70%+ weekly active users, people stick with Dust as much as they do with Slack and Notion. We don't get piloted and shelved; we land once and spread. The Generalist has recognized us among the Future 50 for our potential to transform how work gets done.
