Creative Director
Job description
About the role
You are the visual architect of Dust's public narrative, defining how the company shows up in the world with coherence and conviction. You will own the end-to-end creative strategy that connects product value to brand emotion, ensuring every touchpoint tells the same AI-native story. You will translate abstract product capabilities into tangible visual experiences that feel both human and engineered. You will set the motion language, illustration voice, and photographic attitude that make Dust feel advanced yet approachable. You will partner closely with the Paris design team to ensure brand consistency while empowering a distributed network of creators. You will treat AI not as a gimmick but as a production partner, accelerating high-quality output without sacrificing craft. You will be the guardian of Dust's visual integrity as the company scales globally across markets and cultures.
Key facts
What you'll do
Define the end-to-end visual identity of Dust, including motion, illustration, typography, video language, and brand guidelines that are enterprise-grade and emotionally resonant.
Lead creative direction for all high-visibility moments, including the website, product launches, campaigns, events, GTM materials, sales assets, and social content, ensuring a consistent and compelling narrative.
Create and manage the creative operating model at Dust, establishing intake workflows, prioritization frameworks, review cycles, and standards that enable speed and clarity.
Build and steward a network of freelancers and agencies, enabling a small internal team to produce outsized creative impact while maintaining quality and brand coherence.
Codify Dust's visual identity into documented systems, templates, and reusable components so that AI tools and non-designers can generate on-brand assets quickly and reliably.
Own the creative vision for the website as the primary expression of Dust's value proposition, working closely with product and engineering to align design, content, and code.
Refresh and evolve brand guidelines to cover illustration, iconography, photography, video style, and motion, ensuring all creative output reflects a unified and modern aesthetic.
Act as the strategic and hands-on partner for launch moments, from concept to execution, ensuring every campaign and event feels like a high-integrity signal of the Dust brand.
Partner with sales and GTM teams to develop persuasive, on-brand collateral that speaks to AI-mature buyers and technical decision-makers.
Champion the use of AI within the creative workflow, building prompt-driven systems and templates that expand capacity without compromising taste or consistency.
Your first 6 months
Immerse yourself in Dust's product, brand, and team, auditing current assets and identifying the highest-leverage creative gaps across channels.
By month 3, lead the creative direction of the updated website, shaping the primary narrative that explains Dust's value to operators and enterprises.
By month 6, deliver refreshed brand guidelines that align video, motion, illustration, and photography, creating a repeatable system for future campaigns.
Requirements
You are a visual storyteller with a proven track record of leading brand and creative work where narrative drives design and systems are built to amplify it.
You have exceptional taste and the ability to defend design choices while staying aligned with the strategic direction of the brand and product teams.
You are hands-on and capable of art-directing video, refining landing page details, and giving precise creative briefs in the same week, moving fluidly between strategy and execution.
You are AI-fluent and treat AI as a core component of the creative toolkit, using it intentionally in your own work and building systems that allow a small team to produce at scale.
You have experience building or scaling a creative function, having hired designers, established standards, and created processes that let a lean team produce work that feels much larger than its size.
You have a clear point of view on how design and brand resonate with AI-native buyers and technical decision-makers, and you can make Dust feel culturally magnetic to that audience.
You are comfortable working across Paris and the United States, collaborating asynchronously with clarity and intention in writing.
You have deep respect for companies known for strong brand craft, such as Airbnb, Webflow, Intercom, Linear, Anthropic, and similar AI-first organizations.
You are fluent in visual tools, design systems, and component thinking, and you understand how to translate brand principles into practical templates and guidelines.
You care about cohesive motion, thoughtful illustration, and intentional photography that together signal trust and momentum.
Nice to have
Experience building brand or design systems, template libraries, or prompt-driven workflows that enable non-designers to create on-brand work.
Background working with enterprise AI buyers and an understanding of how technical audiences evaluate credibility and risk.
Practical notes
This role is full-time based in New York. Most of the company is based in Paris, with the US team growing across New York and San Francisco. You must be proactive in writing and clear in cross-time-zone communication.
