Finance Manager - FP&A & Controlling
Job description
About the role
You are the first dedicated FP&A and Controlling hire at Dust, owning the design and execution of the financial backbone that allows the business to scale responsibly. You will not simply maintain existing reports; you will build, challenge, and reinvent the financial control environment from the ground up. This role requires equal ownership of accounting integrity, FP&A architecture, and AI-driven automation within the finance function. You will partner closely with external accounting firms to ensure the monthly close is decision-grade and process-rigorous. You translate statutory accounting into management-ready insights while proactively identifying and mitigating financial risks across revenue recognition and complex transactions. You are expected to become the in-house expert on how Dust generates, validates, and uses financial data to drive operator-level decisions. You will leverage AI not only as a tool but as a core method for reimagining finance workflows end to end.
Key facts
What you'll do
Design, own, and continuously improve the end-to-end financial close process in partnership with external accounting firms in France and the US to guarantee timely, accurate, and decision-grade reporting.
Build and enforce the chart of accounts and the accounting-to-reporting mapping to create a reliable, scalable bridge from statutory P&L to management dashboards.
Proactively identify, analyze, and escalate accounting risks such as revenue recognition edge cases, deferred revenue balances, and capitalized development costs with clear documentation and controls.
Architect the integrated financial model for P&L, cash flow, headcount planning, unit economics, and key operating metrics that reflect how Dust creates and consumes value.
Own the annual budget process and actively participate in quarterly forecasting, business reviews, and strategic analysis to align plans with evolving business realities.
Lead scenario modeling and sensitivity analysis for strategic decisions, fundraising datarooms, and unit economics evaluations with clear narratives and rigorous assumptions.
Develop and deploy AI and automation solutions for finance on the Dust platform, targeting use cases such as AP and AR automations, reconciliations, variance commentary, reporting drafts, and data validation.
Act as a pilot user for Dust's product, testing Finance agents in production-like conditions and generating structured feedback to align product development with real operator needs.
Establish governance and guardrails for financial models and reporting structures so they remain robust and performant as the business scales rapidly.
Communicate financial variance analysis to non-Finance stakeholders, translating complex data into actionable insights while balancing depth with clarity.
Champion a builder mindset in finance by treating every process as an opportunity for automation, simplification, and measurable improvement.
Become the central point of contact for cross-functional partners who rely on timely, accurate, and insightful financial guidance to prioritize work and allocate resources.
Continuously monitor data quality, lineage, and reliability across systems to ensure that decisions are based on trustworthy inputs and transparent logic.
Own the documentation of controls, policies, and procedures so that Finance can operate independently and consistently despite rapid headcount growth.
Requirements
You bring 5 to 7 years of progressive experience in Finance, with a clear trajectory from accounting-focused work toward FP&A, modeling, and business partnering.
You have hands-on experience with both historical close and controlling activities as well as forward-looking planning, and you value the discipline of both.
You have worked in an AI or SaaS company or similar high-growth environment where metrics like ARR, churn, and CAC are meaningful and revenue recognition is non-trivial.
You are comfortable building processes and frameworks from scratch in a scaling environment where formal procedures do not yet exist.
You hold a strong foundation in financial modeling, able to construct models from first principles rather than relying on rigid templates.
You are data-literate and technically curious, comfortable working with SQL or willing to learn, and experienced with data and business intelligence tools such as Metabase, Snowflake, or equivalent platforms.
You are architecture-minded, asking whether a model, reporting structure, or process will still scale cleanly at three times the current complexity.
You are automation-obsessed, defaulting to solutions that reduce manual effort and increase reliability through systematic design.
Nice to have
Experience deploying AI agents into production workflows and measuring their operational impact on finance and operations.
Deep experience with enterprise-grade financial controls, audit readiness, and regulatory reporting in fast-growth technology companies.
