About the role

Discord seeks a Regional Security Manager, Bay Area to own the full scope of safety and security for its San Francisco headquarters. This role is responsible for running and growing Discord's office security program in a dynamic and rapidly evolving environment. The hire will manage the security officer team and directly contribute to security planning for new Discord offices. They will serve as the primary in-office security representative for Corporate Security. Success in this role requires a high level of initiative and a desire to help keep Discord employees safe while supporting the future of gaming. This position reports into the Senior Manager of Corporate Security and is based onsite at our San Francisco HQ office.

What you'll do

As Regional Security Manager, you will be responsible for all aspects of safety and security for Discord's San Francisco headquarters and European office locations, including day-to-day operations and long-term projects. You will manage Discord's contract Security Officer team, ensuring high levels of service and professionalism across all assigned sites. You will serve as the in-office security representative for CorpSec, handling employee inquiries, engaging with visitors, securing internal events, conducting security interviews, investigations, and training sessions. You will develop and uphold standard operating procedures and protocols for facility protection and personnel management within the vendor guard force. You will act as the incident response coordinator for Discord HQ, leading annual incident management exercises, constructing realistic scenarios, and creating clear training objectives. You will define and manage KPIs and SLAs for security vendors, conducting regular audits and driving measurable performance improvements. You will monitor and maintain security systems, performing preemptive health checks and ensuring maximum uptime while planning and building out security technical architecture, including VMS, ACS, system controls, subsystems, and ancillary security products. You will work cross-functionally with other teams, particularly Information Technology, Workplace Services, and Facilities, to ensure the safety and security of Discord employees and guests at all times.

Requirements

Candidates must reside in or be willing to relocate to the San Francisco Bay Area (Alameda, Contra Costa, Marin, Napa, San Francisco, San Mateo, Santa Clara, Solano, and Sonoma counties). You must possess 5+ years of physical security experience, particularly in guard force management and overseeing corporate office security in complex environments. You must have 2+ years of people management experience, demonstrating the ability to lead teams and manage performance. Extensive experience in project management is required, including RFPs, process improvement, and change management, with a proven track record in managing vendor relationships and contracts. You must have hands-on experience managing budgets, spend forecasting, and contract management to ensure financial accuracy and compliance. Access control and video management experience is essential, particularly around systems such as Brivo, Genetech, HID, and other enterprise platforms. You must have excellent verbal and written communication skills and be experienced in de-escalation techniques to handle sensitive situations professionally. The ability to multitask, prioritize, and respond effectively in emergency situations is mandatory for this role. Excellent customer service skills and a professional demeanor are required in all interactions with employees, visitors, and stakeholders. You must be able to perform on-call duties during critical incidents and emergencies and be willing to travel occasionally as required to support operations and meet training requirements across office locations. A high level of integrity and discretion in handling confidential information is non-negotiable.

Nice to have

ASIS CPP, APP, CTM or PSP certification is strongly preferred and may be considered a significant advantage during evaluation. Knowledge of law enforcement agencies and regulatory requirements, especially in the California Bay Area, is valued for compliance and operational awareness. Experience working within start-up organizations, and specifically in the tech industry, is preferred to ensure alignment with Discord's rapid growth trajectory. Pro-tier engagement as a Discord user is encouraged to foster familiarity with the platform and better understand community needs.
