VP Engineering
Job description
About the role
Delphi is constructing a global network of digital minds, marking a fundamental shift in how individuals scale their influence online. For the first time, anyone can create an interactive digital presence that speaks, teaches, and responds in their own voice, operating continuously with personal judgment and perspective. This living profile moves beyond static social feeds to deliver an experiential understanding of how a person thinks. The company views this as a major consumer transition. Initially, the network serves thousands of the world's most brilliant minds. The long-term vision encompasses every thought leader, expert, and professional, creating a new social layer where personalized knowledge is abundant and easily discoverable. This growth is currently fueled by word of mouth, having organically tripled revenue, user base, and interactions in the last six months.
Delphi's support comes from prominent investors including Sequoia Capital, Founders Fund, Abstract Ventures, Michael Ovitz, Gokul Rajaram, and Olivia Wilde. The team features founders and builders with successful exits from companies such as Lyft, Zoom, and Doordash, as well as talent from Spotify and Substack. THE ROLE
The Vice President of Engineering will own the end-to-end technical strategy and scale of Delphi's engineering organization. This position is responsible for transforming the product vision into robust, scalable systems that serve a growing network of digital minds operating globally. The role requires a leader who can build high-performance engineering teams, establish a culture of ownership and quality, and execute at high velocity without compromising durability. You will partner directly with product, design, and executive leadership to ensure technical strategy aligns with ambitious business objectives. This is an opportunity to define the infrastructure of a new medium of human connection.
This role is designed for an individual motivated by building systems that outlast conventional products and who seeks to shape the future of human interaction at scale. You will be instrumental in scaling wisdom to a global population while solving some of the most challenging technical problems in real-time interaction.
WHAT YOU'LL DO
You will define and implement the technical architecture required to support millions of concurrent digital mind interactions. This includes designing systems that are both highly reliable and capable of rapid iteration. You will build, mentor, and lead a world-class engineering organization, fostering a culture where ownership and proactive problem-solving are standard. Driving efficient execution is a core responsibility, balancing the need for fast feature delivery with the durability required for a mission-critical network. You will collaborate cross-functionally with product and design teams to translate strategic vision into technical roadmaps and shipped features. Establishing and maintaining technical excellence across the codebase will be a key priority. You will also elevate the engineering community by mentoring leaders and ensuring Delphi remains a top destination for elite technical talent. Effectively communicating complex technical strategies to non-technical stakeholders is essential for aligning company goals. You will own key intake and workflow systems, transforming user and partner requests into reliable digital mind features. Maintaining system resilience and uptime will be critical to preserving user trust and the integrity of the network.
You will architect the data pipelines that power real-time reasoning across the digital mind network, ensuring latency targets are met even during peak demand. You will evaluate and select technologies that enable rapid experimentation while maintaining strict security and privacy standards. You will implement observability frameworks that provide deep insight into system health and user experience. You will coordinate with infrastructure partners to optimize costs and performance at scale. You will break down complex product initiatives into manageable technical milestones, tracking progress transparently. You will establish code review standards that improve quality without slowing down innovation. You will identify and mitigate technical debt before it impacts product velocity or reliability. You will serve as the primary escalation point for critical production incidents, guiding the team through resolution. You will define hiring plans for engineering roles, ensuring the team has the skills needed to execute the vision. You will create an environment where engineers can experiment, learn, and build with confidence.
REQUIREMENTS
You bring a minimum of 7 years of hands-on engineering experience, with at least 2 years leading teams of 10 or more engineers in a fast-growth, high-expectation setting. Your background includes a proven ability to ship large-scale, high-impact systems that users depend on. You possess executive-level communication skills, allowing you to navigate discussions between technical and business stakeholders with ease. You are a first-principles thinker who thrives in environments with ambiguity, capable of inventing new solutions where standard approaches do not exist. A strong sense of ownership is central to your work; you take complete responsibility for your domains, meet deadlines consistently, and ensure teams exceed expectations.
