About the role
DeepL is on the lookout for a Staff Software Engineer to enhance its Identity and Access Management team. In this pivotal position, you will be responsible for the development and upkeep of essential identity services that support all DeepL offerings. Your efforts will ensure that user authentication and authorization processes are both secure and scalable. You will significantly contribute to transforming the identity platform into a robust infrastructure suitable for enterprise-level applications.

What you'll do
- Enhance the engineering practices within the team by conducting design reviews, providing mentorship, and establishing best practices for technical guidelines.
- Oversee the complete lifecycle of identity services, from the initial design phase through deployment and ongoing operational management.
- Address urgent customer and operational incidents, providing assistance with diagnosis, resolution, and implementing preventive measures.
- Strike a balance between rolling out new features and ensuring the reliability and availability of critical infrastructure that handles high volumes of transactions.
- Set the technical direction and make well-informed architectural decisions that prioritize reliability, availability, consistency, and security within the identity domain.
- Contribute to the strategic identity roadmap, focusing on advancements in Single Sign-On (SSO), System for Cross-domain Identity Management (SCIM), and OpenID Connect (OIDC) on contemporary cloud platforms.
- Analyze intricate requirements, articulate solutions in business terms, and facilitate stakeholder alignment to guarantee effective project delivery.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure seamless integration of identity services across various DeepL products.
- Continuously evaluate and implement improvements to enhance the performance and security of identity services.
- Mentor junior engineers, fostering a culture of knowledge sharing and professional growth within the team.
- Participate in code reviews, ensuring high-quality code and adherence to best practices.
- Engage in regular team meetings to discuss progress, challenges, and future directions for identity services.
Requirements
- Proven experience in backend engineering at a Staff level, with a history of managing systems across multiple teams.
- A solid track record of leading projects from conception through to implementation, deployment, and ongoing operations.
- A proactive approach to operational tasks and incident response, demonstrating a hands-on attitude.
- Experience in building and maintaining reliable, high-throughput services while balancing the introduction of new features with system stability.
- Strong grasp of software engineering principles and architectural design, with the capability to mentor and guide others.
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment, showing resilience in the face of uncertainty.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to influence technical decisions without direct authority.
- Familiarity with agile methodologies and practices is a plus.
Nice to have
- Extensive knowledge of identity and access management platforms, including SSO, OIDC, SCIM, and session management.
- Experience with modern cloud-native infrastructure technologies such as Amazon EKS, Aurora, and Redis.
- Previous involvement in security-focused projects or initiatives.
