Engineering Manager, Console Team
Job description
About the role
Deepgram is seeking an Engineering Manager to lead the Console Team within a product-led growth organization focused on real-time voice AI. In this role, you will own the roadmap and execution of our self-serve developer platform, ensuring that the Console and related web experiences provide an intuitive and powerful interface for thousands of developers. You will partner directly with Product, Sales, and Marketing to translate high-level strategy into tangible product milestones that drive activation and retention. The role requires you to manage a multi-disciplinary engineering team responsible for frontend, backend, and infrastructure that powers critical user journeys. You will be accountable for delivering secure, scalable, and performant features that underpin our billing, authorization, and analytics capabilities. Success in this position will be measured by your ability to balance rapid experimentation with operational reliability. You will play a key role in shaping the first impression Deepgram makes on the developer community.
Key facts
What you'll do
- Lead a team of multi-disciplined software engineers to build our web applications, agentic tooling integrations (MCP servers, SDK experiences), and account management (authorization, billing, analytics) services.
- Work closely with the rest of the leadership and product management team on product strategy and roadmap refinement, with a focus on AI-native developer experience.
- Oversee technical design, task decomposition, and daily standups to ensure the team is executing on schedule.
- Lead the creation of features and product releases by being closely involved with the product development, design, and review - including AI agent playground environments and LLM-powered developer tooling.
- Drive the self-serve growth engine: activation funnels, in-product upgrade flows, and PLG experimentation and self serve deployments.
- Work with other team leads from across the product organization on cross-functional projects, help identify the critical paths, and resolve dependencies.
- Hold regular 1-on-1s with direct reports, help them navigate challenges, and coach them for their career development.
- Champion the adoption of AI tools within the engineering workflow, ensuring the team leverages AI to increase velocity and code quality.
- Monitor key product metrics and user behavior to iterate on the console experience and remove friction from the developer journey.
- Ensure best practices in security, compliance, and scalability are embedded into the delivery process from the start.
- Collaborate with customer facing teams to synthesize feedback and translate it into actionable product improvements.
- Maintain a strong technical foundation that supports rapid iteration without sacrificing stability or performance.
Requirements
- A strong technical background building world class user-facing applications.
- Proven management and leadership experience.
- The ability to drive technical decisions in a scalable and thoughtful manner.
- Passion about good engineering practices, emerging technologies, and improving how teams build software.
- Experience working in early stage startups - from building and scaling to going through fundraising.
- Great communication and leadership skills and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong practical experience with software architecture and implementation.
- The ability to engage with an engineering team to help build and scale the existing infrastructure.
Nice to have
- Familiarity with hybrid cloud models (bare-metal datacenters and cloud service providers) and scaled databases.
- Interest in relevant technologies (Rust, LLM APIs, MCP/agent tooling, Elm, Postgres, GPUs, etc.) and a willingness to challenge common assumptions about the future trajectories of technology.
- Think about LLMs, agents, and model APIs as first-class product primitives - not just add-ons.
Practical notes
This role operates in a fast-moving AI environment where change is constant and learning is continuous. You should be comfortable adopting new models and modes quickly, integrating AI into your workflows, and pushing the boundaries of what these technologies can do. The position requires an AI-first mindset where AI use and comfort are core to how we operate and measure performance. Candidates should expect their day-to-day work to evolve rapidly alongside advances in the field. This may not be the right role if you are not excited to experiment, adapt, think on your feet, and learn constantly, or if you are seeking something highly prescriptive with a traditional 9-to-5 schedule.
