Strategic Artificial Intelligence
Job description
About the role
The selected candidate will own the analysis of how emerging Artificial Intelligence technologies can be leveraged to enhance security protocols across the Defense infrastructure. This position is responsible for the creation and refinement of Security Technical Implementation Guides (STIGs) that form the foundational framework for Risk Management Framework (RMF) compliance. You will translate complex technological capabilities into concrete security measures that ensure operational readiness for warfighter missions. The role requires synthesizing machine learning, natural language processing, and computer vision insights into actionable security controls. You will act as the critical bridge between forward-looking technology forecasting and the practical implementation of these controls within the DISA ecosystem. This position is integral to the successful execution of programs designed to support the warfighter through technological advancement. The work directly impacts the Authority to Operate (ATO) posture of defense systems.
Key facts
What you'll do
- Chart intake pipelines to define risk parameters and map corresponding control artifacts, ensuring comprehensive security assessments are structured through data flows.
- Prototype systems using machine learning methods, embedding security logic into the development lifecycle to ensure strict alignment with established RMF workflows.
- Guide natural language tools to transform static policy documents into dynamic, actionable guidance, reducing ambiguity and improving compliance accuracy across the organization.
- Direct computer vision evaluations to verify physical security assumptions, validating that real-world implementations match designed security postures.
- Orchestrate build cycles where synthetic reasoning components integrate securely, coordinating with development teams to ensure AI elements function without compromising system integrity.
- Lead review checkpoints to validate controls against evolving threat models, ensuring security measures remain effective, resilient, and proactive.
- Coordinate ship readiness by packaging the necessary artifacts for ATO approval, ensuring all documentation is complete, audit-ready, and aligned with defense standards.
- Forge partners exchanges to ensure controls documentation accurately reflects operational reality, bridging the gap between policy creation and practical application.
- Analyze the development and potential applications of Artificial Intelligence technologies to enhance security protocols within the Defense infrastructure.
- Translate emerging technological capabilities into robust security measures that ensure operational readiness for Defense missions.
- Serve as a critical link between technology forecasting and the practical implementation of controls within the DISA ecosystem.
- Structure data flows to ensure comprehensive security assessments are conducted efficiently and effectively.
- Embed security logic into the development lifecycle from the outset through advanced prototyping methodologies.
- Validate that physical security implementations match designed security postures through rigorous evaluation processes.
Requirements
Applicants must hold three to five years of experience analyzing security programs or related fields, with a deep understanding of Risk Management Framework processes, particularly the mission-focused application within the defense sector. The ability to read complex technical guidance and translate high-level requirements into concrete implementation plans is mandatory, and clear communication skills are essential to effectively interact with both technical staff and executive decision-makers. Candidates must demonstrate a proven capacity to handle the technical complexity of integrating AI into security frameworks. A strict adherence to established defense protocols and compliance standards is non-negotiable for success in this role. The position requires a U.S. citizenship or eligibility for national security clearance as determined by the Defense Information Systems Agency. All information provided must be verifiable through background investigation processes. The role demands the ability to operate effectively in a high-sensitivity defense environment.
Nice to have
Familiarity with Authority to Operate (ATO) processes and established control catalogs is preferred, allowing for smoother integration into the DISA compliance framework. Proficiency in the Risk Management Framework is non-negotiable, and candidates must possess a working knowledge of the Enterprise Integration and Innovation Center's objectives and the Defense Information Systems Agency's strategic goals. Understanding of STIGs and Authority to Operate procedures is essential for success in this role.
