The Senior Network Engineer - Pacific Region is responsible for acting as the definitive technical authority for all network infrastructure within military medical facilities spread across the Pacific theater. This role requires the design and oversight of complex network architectures that ensure clinical operations run without interruption. The individual will serve as the primary escalation point for network related incidents affecting patient care and clinical workflows. They will translate high level government requirements into precise technical implementations for routers, switches, and firewalls. A core aspect of the position is the creation and maintenance of detailed documentation for every architectural decision to ensure organizational knowledge retention. The engineer will optimize traffic flows across both wired and wireless mediums to support the availability of critical medical applications. Ultimately, this position ensures the integrity, security, and reliability of the Defense Health Agency network infrastructure in a high stakes environment.

What you'll do

• Architect and design future state network topologies for medical clinics, ensuring all solutions are supported by clear and comprehensive documentation.
• Construct and sustain secure local and wide area network links that reliably connect clinical wards, laboratory facilities, and operational command centers.
• Act as the central engineering resource for the Department of Defense network, providing strategic guidance and technical validation for infrastructure initiatives.
• Coordinate directly with clinical and operational teams to ensure technology roadmaps actively support and enhance the workflows of care delivery.
• Optimize network traffic management through the careful tuning of routing protocols across wireless and wired mediums to guarantee uptime for clinical tools.
• Provide expert level support during urgent network outages and serve as a technical guide for junior staff executing complex infrastructure procedures.
• Continuously evaluate network performance, security postures, and reliability through the rigorous review of change requests and proposed adjustments.
• Deploy all network updates only after passing rigorous validation checks to ensure new features are delivered reliably without impacting patient care.
• Collaborate with external solution vendors and internal government departments to align technological tools with current policy and established security standards.
• Monitor the environment using established metrics and tools to identify potential degradation or security events before they impact clinical operations.

Requirements

• Hold a current security clearance that permits access to sensitive defense information.
• Possess a minimum of three years of focused experience managing large-scale enterprise network infrastructure.
• Demonstrate deep technical knowledge of routing protocols, switching architecture, security appliances, and network monitoring platforms.
• Exhibit the ability to interpret complex technical documentation and convert those specifications into precise configuration instructions for implementation.
• Show effective communication skills to successfully interact with both technical personnel and clinical stakeholders under strict deadline pressures.
• Prove the capability to manage concurrent projects while maintaining meticulous records of all changes and the associated technical decisions.
• Meet the operational readiness standards required to balance technical excellence with the realities of military healthcare delivery environments.
• Comply with all government and defense security standards and protocols as they relate to network infrastructure and data handling.

• Demonstrated familiarity with network protocols and tools specific to defense healthcare environments.
• Proficiency with Windows and Linux operating systems, VMware virtualization, and network hardware from vendors such as Cisco, Palo Alto, Fortinet, Checkpoint, and Juniper.
• Operational experience with monitoring platforms like Splunk and IT service management through ServiceNow.
