Cursor is building the future of software development and seeks a dedicated owner to manage our entire revenue lifecycle. You will oversee everything from contract billing to financial reporting and audits, ensuring our processes remain efficient as we scale. This role involves using our own product to automate accounting workflows and establish a modern, high-velocity finance function. You will be responsible for translating complex commercial arrangements into accurate and timely revenue recognition, acting as the primary technical expert for all things related to the order-to-cash cycle. The ideal candidate thrives on solving ambiguous problems and takes full ownership of the integrity of our financial data. You will partner closely with executive leadership to provide insights that drive strategic decision-making and support sustainable growth. By leveraging automation and a deep understanding of accounting standards, you will remove friction from the revenue process and enable the business to operate at speed.

What you'll do
- Orchestrate the end-to-end close process for monthly and quarterly revenue, deferred revenue, and unbilled receivables with precision.
- Author and validate complex journal entries, comprehensive reconciliations, and detailed flux analyses to support leadership reporting.
- Partner with product and operations stakeholders to refine pricing, packaging, and billing logic to ensure revenue recognition readiness and compliance.
- Reconcile product data streams with the general ledger to maintain accuracy for high-volume, self-service revenue transactions.
- Drive the evaluation, selection, and implementation of billing and revenue management software to modernize our financial stack.
- Codify and monitor internal controls across the order-to-cash process to guarantee audit readiness and mitigate risk.
- Leverage Cursor to author scripts and construct bespoke tools that automate repetitive accounting tasks and eliminate manual errors.
- Serve as the central liaison between finance, technology, and commercial teams to resolve revenue-related discrepancies swiftly.
- Analyze trends in bookings and cash collections to forecast accuracy and improve financial planning initiatives.
- Standardize documentation and playbooks for revenue accounting procedures to ensure consistency and scalability.
- Perform variance analyses against budgets and forecasts, highlighting key drivers and outliers for executive review.
- Collaborate with external auditors to facilitate smooth year-end audits and provide transparent documentation packages.
- Implement data quality checks and governance frameworks to enhance the reliability of financial datasets.
- Mentor junior finance staff on best practices for revenue accounting and the use of automation in financial workflows.
Requirements
- Hold a Bachelor degree in accounting or finance or equivalent professional experience that demonstrates a deep understanding of financial principles.
- Bring 8 or more years of progressive accounting experience with a demonstrated focus on revenue recognition and complex billing environments.
- Exhibit deep expertise in ASC 606 standards, including the ability to apply the five-step model to intricate contract scenarios.
- Possess a background in subscription and usage-based SaaS business models characterized by high-volume, self-service transactions.
- Show a proven ability to design, implement, and maintain automated data integrations that connect source systems with the general ledger.
- Demonstrate proficiency in SQL or similar data querying tools to reconcile large datasets and troubleshoot data discrepancies.
- Have hands-on experience with platforms such as NetSuite, Stripe, HubiFi, Salesforce, or comparable enterprise software.
- Display strong influence skills to partner effectively with cross-functional partners in a fast-paced, matrixed organization.
- Operate comfortably in an ambiguous, fast-paced environment where priorities shift rapidly and problem-solving is iterative.
- Maintain a meticulous attention to detail to ensure the accuracy and compliance of financial reporting.

- CPA certification or equivalent qualification is strongly preferred and indicates a commitment to the highest standards of financial rigor.
Practical notes
This is an on-site position requiring presence in either our San Francisco or New York office. We prioritize candidates who take full ownership of their work and possess the technical skills to build scalable financial systems from the ground up. The role requires occasional coordination across time zones for end-of-month closing activities and ad-hoc analysis for special projects. Travel is not required for this position, and candidates must be eligible to work in the United States without sponsorship. This position is not eligible for remote work arrangements, and successful candidates are expected to adhere to the established office schedules.
