What you'll do
- Prepare detailed cost estimates for construction projects, taking into account materials, labor, and overheads to ensure accurate budgeting.
- Conduct thorough feasibility studies and cost analyses to assist in project planning and decision-making.
- Monitor project expenditures and provide regular financial reports to project managers and stakeholders, highlighting any discrepancies or potential overruns.
- Collaborate with architects, engineers, and contractors to ensure that project specifications are met while maintaining cost efficiency.
- Negotiate contracts with suppliers and subcontractors to secure favorable terms and pricing.
- Manage and assess variations to contracts, ensuring that all changes are documented and accounted for in the project budget.
- Conduct site visits to assess progress and compliance with project specifications, providing on-site support and guidance as needed.
- Prepare and submit progress claims and final accounts, ensuring that all financial transactions are accurately recorded and processed.
- Assist in the preparation of tender documents and evaluate bids from contractors to ensure the best value for the company.
- Stay updated on industry trends, regulations, and best practices to ensure compliance and enhance project delivery.
- Provide mentorship and support to junior staff members, fostering a collaborative and growth-oriented team environment.
- Participate in project meetings and contribute to strategic discussions regarding project delivery and financial management.
Requirements
- A degree in Quantity Surveying, Construction Management, or a related field.
- A minimum of 3 years of experience in quantity surveying or a similar role within the construction industry.
- Strong understanding of construction processes, contract law, and financial management principles.
- Proficiency in cost estimation software and tools, with experience in using industry-standard software such as CostX or similar.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret complex data and make informed decisions.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with diverse teams and stakeholders.
- Attention to detail and a commitment to delivering high-quality work within tight deadlines.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Familiarity with relevant health and safety regulations and standards in the construction industry.
Nice to have
- Professional membership with a recognized body, such as the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS).
- Experience in sustainable construction practices and knowledge of green building certifications.
- Familiarity with Building Information Modeling (BIM) and its application in quantity surveying.
- Previous experience in international projects or working with diverse teams across different locations.
Skills & tools
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel for financial modeling and reporting.
- Experience with project management software such as Primavera or MS Project.
- Strong negotiation and contract management skills.
- Ability to utilize digital tools for cost estimation and project tracking.
