About the role
Cunninghamcontracts is seeking an experienced MEP Lead to join our dynamic team in Newry, County Down. This full-time position is pivotal in overseeing the mechanical, electrical, and plumbing aspects of our projects, ensuring that all systems are designed, installed, and maintained to the highest standards. The ideal candidate will possess a robust technical background and a proven track record in managing MEP projects from conception through to completion. You will play a crucial role in coordinating with various stakeholders, ensuring that projects are delivered on time and within budget while adhering to safety and quality regulations.

What you'll do
- Lead the planning and execution of MEP systems for various construction projects, ensuring compliance with industry standards and regulations.
- Collaborate closely with project managers, architects, and other engineers to integrate MEP systems seamlessly into overall project designs.
- Conduct thorough reviews of MEP designs and specifications, providing feedback and recommendations for improvements.
- Manage and mentor a team of MEP engineers and technicians, fostering a collaborative and innovative work environment.
- Oversee the procurement of materials and equipment necessary for MEP installations, ensuring cost-effectiveness and quality.
- Develop and maintain project schedules, tracking progress and addressing any delays or issues that arise.
- Conduct site inspections to monitor the installation of MEP systems, ensuring adherence to design specifications and safety standards.
- Liaise with clients and stakeholders to provide updates on project status, addressing any concerns or changes in scope.
- Prepare and present technical reports and documentation related to MEP systems for internal and external stakeholders.
- Ensure that all MEP systems are tested and commissioned according to established protocols before project handover.
- Stay updated on industry trends, technologies, and best practices to continually improve MEP processes and systems.
- Assist in the development of training programs for junior staff, enhancing their skills and knowledge in MEP engineering.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or Building Services Engineering or a related field.
- A minimum of 5 years of experience in MEP engineering within the construction industry, with a focus on project management.
- Proven experience in leading MEP projects from initial design through to completion.
- Strong knowledge of relevant building codes, regulations, and standards pertaining to MEP systems.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with diverse teams and stakeholders.
- Proficiency in MEP design software and tools, such as AutoCAD, Revit, or similar applications.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with a keen attention to detail.
- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously while meeting deadlines and budget constraints.
- A valid driver's license and willingness to travel to project sites as required.
Nice to have
- Professional certification such as Chartered Engineer (CEng) or similar accreditation.
- Experience with sustainable design practices and energy-efficient systems.
- Familiarity with Building Information Modeling (BIM) processes and tools.
- Previous experience working in a leadership role within a multidisciplinary team.
- Knowledge of health and safety regulations specific to construction and MEP installations.
Skills & tools
The successful candidate will be adept in utilizing various engineering software and tools, including AutoCAD, Revit, and other MEP design applications. Strong project management skills are essential, along with proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite for documentation and reporting. Familiarity with BIM methodologies will be beneficial, as will an understanding of energy management systems and sustainable building practices.
