Software Engineer in Test
Job description
About the role
You will own the testing lifecycle from intake through partners, driving standards and high impact initiatives that define how quality protects our customer experience across every interaction. The position requires code-first automation thinking and deep ownership of testing strategies that keep our platform resilient and trustworthy for every user. You will establish the guardrails that prevent regressions and ensure releases in build and ship remain stable under real-world conditions. The role focuses on designing, building, and maintaining a robust automated testing ecosystem that scales with our product surface. You will shape how testing operates across intake, build, review, ship, and partners phases with a focus on quality as a foundational product. This position demands strong automation thinking and ownership of critical testing initiatives that directly influence customer trust and platform reliability. You will champion testing standards, documentation, and continuous improvement across the entire delivery pipeline to elevate quality maturity.
Key facts
What you'll do
You will design end to end test strategies that validate intake, build, review, ship, and partners workflows with strong automation to ensure comprehensive coverage. You will establish regression guards and observability for core flows to ensure releases in build and ship remain stable and predictable for customers. Automation of critical user journeys using Playwright with TypeScript will be a primary focus, keeping frameworks reliable, maintainable, and readable for long term success. You will conduct manual exploratory testing for intricate features, translating nuanced findings into clear, actionable insights for product teams to guide decision making. Analysis of test outcomes will drive your communication of risk, coverage, and impact to engineers and stakeholders to align on quality expectations. Setting up and managing test environments that mirror production patterns will enable reliable verification before changes reach customers and reduce production incidents. You will investigate customer signals from Datadog and Grafana, reproducing issues and classifying severity with precise context to accelerate resolution and improve observability. Collaboration with developers and product managers will embed quality practices from feature design through release readiness to ensure quality is built in rather than tested in. You will champion testing standards, documentation, and continuous improvement across the entire delivery pipeline to create a scalable and efficient testing culture. Driving test coverage expansion where risk is highest will ensure automation keeps pace with evolving product surfaces and new customer interactions.
Requirements
You will design and execute test plans for complex features, demonstrating how you handle coverage across modules and workflows with structured and methodical approaches. You will write clean automation using Playwright and TypeScript, showing reliability and maintainability in real projects that adhere to best practices and coding standards. Manual testing will be performed with care, especially for nuanced scenarios where automation alone cannot reveal risk and human insight is essential. You will analyze results thoroughly, communicating findings that guide fast, informed resolution and help stakeholders understand the implications of test outcomes. Maintaining documentation and standards will keep testing consistent and scalable across teams, providing clarity and alignment for current and future contributors. You will set up and manage test environments that accurately reflect production conditions to ensure tests are valid and relevant to real user scenarios. Investigating customer issues using logs and traces will be part of your approach, assessing severity with clear reasoning and supporting data to prioritize fixes effectively. Collaboration with engineers and product managers will deliver quality from initial design through release, integrating quality practices into every stage of the development lifecycle. You will evaluate release risk and test coverage, informing decisions that affect our customers and ensuring that only well-validated changes are deployed. Advocating for testing improvements across the organization will expand coverage where it matters most and foster a culture of continuous quality improvement and learning.
