About the role
CoreWeave is seeking a Firmware Engineer to contribute to the development and maintenance of our high-performance AI cloud infrastructure. You will work on low-level systems that support our large-scale GPU compute and bare metal environments. In this capacity, you will own the end-to-end lifecycle of firmware components that drive our infrastructure reliability. Your work will directly influence the performance and stability of critical compute and networking hardware at the edge of our AI platform. You will be responsible for translating hardware specifications into robust firmware implementations that meet stringent operational standards. This role requires a deep commitment to system integrity and the ability to solve complex problems at the intersection of hardware and software. You will partner closely with cross-functional teams to ensure firmware changes are deployed safely and efficiently across our global footprint. Your contributions will be integral to enabling the next generation of AI and high-performance computing workloads.
Key facts
What you'll do
- Architect and implement firmware modules for server hardware and networking components, ensuring alignment with evolving product roadmaps.
- Partner with hardware engineers to characterize system behavior and refine firmware logic for maximum throughput and efficiency.
- Investigate and remediate low-level defects within the compute, storage, and networking stack using advanced debugging methodologies.
- Design and execute automated frameworks for firmware deployment, validation, and monitoring across geographically distributed data centers.
- Enforce strict security and reliability protocols for all hardware-level configurations and firmware images.
- Analyze system telemetry to identify firmware-level bottlenecks and drive optimizations that enhance overall infrastructure resilience.
- Collaborate with software teams to define interfaces and contracts between firmware services and higher-level system components.
- Champion best practices for firmware versioning, testing, and documentation to support scalable and maintainable infrastructure.
- Lead root cause analysis for critical incidents, developing patches and long-term solutions to prevent future occurrences.
- Mentor junior engineers by providing guidance on firmware development techniques and problem-solving strategies.
- Evaluate emerging hardware standards and integrate support for new components into our firmware ecosystem.
- Streamline operational workflows by developing tools that improve the speed and accuracy of firmware management tasks.
- Act as a technical liaison between CoreWeave and hardware vendors to resolve compatibility and performance issues.
- Ensure all firmware deliverables meet regulatory and compliance requirements for data center operations.
Requirements
- Demonstrated professional experience in firmware development for server, embedded, or networking systems.
- Expert-level proficiency in C or C++ with a strong track record of writing efficient and maintainable low-level code.
- Solid understanding of hardware architecture, including memory systems, buses, and peripheral integration techniques.
- Proven ability to diagnose and resolve complex issues using low-level debugging tools and methodologies.
- Experience working autonomously within distributed engineering teams while maintaining clear communication and accountability.
- Familiarity with firmware development lifecycle, including design, implementation, verification, and deployment stages.
- Commitment to maintaining high standards for system reliability, performance, and security in all firmware artifacts.
- Willingness to work within a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment where priorities may shift based on business needs.
Nice to have
- Hands-on experience with BMC, UEFI, or BIOS development and associated firmware maintenance practices.
- Background in Linux kernel internals, device drivers, or system-level integration efforts.
- Knowledge of high-performance computing architectures and AI infrastructure workload characteristics.
- Exposure to automated testing frameworks for firmware validation in large-scale environments.
- Understanding of security best practices for firmware images and secure boot processes.

CoreWeave offers full-time employment with the expectation of consistent availability for collaboration during standard business hours. Travel is not required for this role under current policies.
