What you'll do

• Prepare and maintain accurate financial records, including general ledger entries, accounts payable, and accounts receivable.
• Conduct monthly reconciliations of bank statements and balance sheet accounts to ensure accuracy and completeness.
• Assist in the preparation of financial statements, including income statements, balance sheets, and cash flow statements, in accordance with GAAP.
• Support the annual budgeting process by gathering and analyzing financial data to forecast future revenues and expenditures.
• Collaborate with internal teams to provide financial insights and support for decision-making processes.
• Ensure compliance with tax regulations by preparing and filing necessary tax returns and documentation.
• Participate in the development and implementation of accounting policies and procedures to enhance operational efficiency.
• Conduct regular audits of financial processes and systems to identify areas for improvement and ensure adherence to internal controls.
• Assist in preparing for external audits by providing necessary documentation and responding to inquiries from auditors.
• Maintain up-to-date knowledge of accounting standards and regulations to ensure compliance and best practices.
• Provide training and support to junior accounting staff as needed, fostering a collaborative team environment.
• Utilize accounting software and tools to streamline processes, improve reporting capabilities, and enhance data accuracy.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
• A minimum of 3 years of experience in accounting or a similar financial role.
• Proficiency in accounting software, such as QuickBooks, Sage, or similar platforms.
• Strong understanding of accounting principles and financial regulations.
• Excellent analytical skills with a keen attention to detail.
• Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
• Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, to effectively collaborate with team members and stakeholders.
• Proven ability to meet deadlines and manage time efficiently.
• Familiarity with tax regulations and compliance requirements in Canada.

Nice to have

• CPA designation or working towards it is a plus.
• Experience in the real estate or property management sector is advantageous.
• Knowledge of advanced Excel functions and data analysis tools.
• Experience with financial forecasting and modeling.
• Familiarity with ERP systems and their integration with accounting processes.

Skills & tools

• Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel for financial analysis and reporting.
• Experience with accounting software such as QuickBooks, Sage, or similar platforms.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to identify discrepancies and propose solutions.
• Ability to adapt to new technologies and software as needed.
• Excellent organizational skills to maintain accurate records and documentation.

Practical notes

• This position is based in Ottawa, Ontario, and may require occasional overtime during peak financial periods, such as month-end and year-end closing.
• Candidates must possess valid work authorization in Canada.
