About the role
This role owns the strategic advancement of state and federal policy objectives for the company. You will translate complex regulatory landscapes into actionable plans that protect and grow the business. You will serve as the primary internal advisor on government relations, ensuring that legislative and regulatory activities align with commercial priorities. You will build and maintain coalitions that amplify our voice in key markets. You will bring a startup mindset to government affairs, navigating ambiguity with speed and precision. You will balance government relations strategy with hands-on legal work to support the full business as needed.

What you'll do
Identify specific legislative and regulatory goals in various states and map them to business impact.
Engage with state and federal lobbyists to draft proposed legislation and regulations that support our business objectives.
Create coalitions with other stakeholders who share our vision for legislative and regulatory change and long-term care workforce issues.
Monitor relevant state and federal legislation and regulatory changes and translate them into clear internal guidance.
Work with business teams, including the Product, Sales, and People Ops teams, to implement any required legislative and regulatory changes after conducting a risk analysis of compliance, including the dollars in risk for noncompliance.
Provide legal advice to business teams across a range of issues and topics, including healthcare policy and workforce regulation.
Prepare responses to regulator inquiries with accurate, timely, and strategically aligned information.
Manage contracts with outside counsel to ensure deliverables are on time, within budget, and responsive to the business' needs.
Lead external relations campaigns to engage stakeholders on advocacy issues that affect the business and our mission.
Work cross-functionally to identify, investigate, and manage risks across the business, including operational and compliance risks.
Analyze and provide guidance to the company on evolving rules, regulations, compliance requirements, and trends impacting the tech and healthcare industries.
Manage a range of legal matters, including but not limited to human resources, independent contractor classification, and state registration requirement work streams.
Support the development of policy positions that can be communicated to internal and external audiences with clarity and precision.
Drive initiatives that strengthen our relationships with policymakers and regulatory bodies in key jurisdictions.
Requirements
JD, with admission to a state bar.
At least 5 years of relevant legal experience and/or government relations experience at a well-respected lobbying firm, law firm, as an in-house attorney, or in a high-level government role including legislative outreach.
At least 2 years of experience working in state or federal government.
Experience engaging legislators and government regulators on complex policy issues.
Bias toward action and solving problems rather than only spotting them.
Ability to take ownership of your work and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
Strong written and verbal communication skills for advising internal stakeholders and drafting policy materials.
Comfort engaging with ambiguity and navigating evolving regulatory landscapes in the healthcare and technology sectors.
Willingness to quickly dive in on new and unfamiliar legal issues while maintaining attention to detail and compliance standards.
Nice to have
Experience in long-term care, home health, or hospital settings or familiarity with healthcare workforce policy.
Understanding of Y Combinator backed startups and experience working in a remote-first, fast-growth environment.
Experience managing outside counsel and legal budgets in a startup or growth-stage company.
Practical notes
U.S. based remote work is required.
Full-time engagement is expected.
This role may involve travel to meet with stakeholders, participate in conferences, or support in-person advocacy when necessary.
Candidates must be eligible to work in the United States without sponsorship for this role.
Work hours are aligned with U.S. business hours, with flexibility required for occasional after-hours coordination across time zones.
The candidate must be available to start within the timeframe aligned with business needs.
