About the role

The At-Risk Learning Specialist at Classical Charter Schools is entrusted with the critical responsibility of driving literacy outcomes for students who are performing below grade level. You own the end-to-end instructional cycle for your assigned scholars, translating complex assessment data into targeted, small-group learning experiences that close achievement gaps. This role requires you to design and deliver highly individualized lesson plans that focus on foundational phonics skills, fluency development, and comprehension strategies tailored to each scholar's specific needs. You serve as a data-driven instructional leader, constantly analyzing assessment results to refine your teaching methods and ensure measurable academic growth. Collaboration with instructional coaches and grade-level teams is central, as you work together to align interventions with classroom instruction and observe real-time student responses. You are expected to proactively seek feedback from coaches and teachers to iterate on your practice and maximize your impact on student learning. Furthermore, this position demands active engagement with families through home-school partnerships, reinforcing consistent learning routines and building trust to support literacy development beyond the classroom. You will communicate student progress through detailed, data-driven updates, ensuring that every family understands their child's next steps and how to support them effectively.

What you'll do

• Conduct ongoing diagnostic assessments to identify specific literacy skill gaps for at-risk scholars and track progress over time.
• Design and implement individualized small-group lesson plans that target phonics mastery, fluency, and comprehension based on assessment data.
• Lead dynamic guided reading sessions that actively engage scholars and build foundational reading skills essential for grade-level success.
• Analyze literacy assessment results to determine precise learning needs and adjust instructional strategies accordingly.
• Collaborate closely with instructional coaches and teacher teams to refine intervention methods using quantitative outcomes and qualitative observations.
• Proactively seek feedback from colleagues and supervisors to accelerate professional practice and amplify instructional impact.
• Partner with families to reinforce consistent learning routines at home, ensuring literacy practices are supported outside the school environment.
• Communicate student progress through detailed, data-driven updates that clarify each learner's next steps and growth trajectory.
• Maintain meticulous records of scholar progress, intervention strategies, and outcomes to inform future instructional decisions.
• Demonstrate flexibility in adjusting lesson plans and delivery methods in response to scholar needs and classroom dynamics.

• Utilize the Fountas and Pinnell literacy framework or a comparable leveling system to guide instructional decisions and groupings.

Requirements

• Hold a valid New York State Teaching Certification or have completed two years of elementary literacy instruction.
• Demonstrate a thorough understanding and application of Fountas and Pinnell literacy frameworks or a comparable leveling system.
• Exhibit a visible commitment to the Classical Charter Schools mission and classical education principles in all professional interactions.
• Display exceptional organizational skills and an unwavering work ethic necessary to manage multiple priorities with precision.
