What you'll do
- Design and implement robust data pipelines to ingest, process, and store large volumes of structured and unstructured data.
- Collaborate with data scientists, analysts, and business stakeholders to understand data requirements and translate them into technical specifications.
- Optimize existing data workflows for performance and efficiency, ensuring high availability and reliability of data systems.
- Develop and maintain data models and schemas that support analytical queries and reporting needs.
- Monitor data quality and integrity, implementing validation checks and error handling mechanisms to ensure data accuracy.
- Utilize cloud services and technologies to build scalable data solutions, leveraging platforms such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud.
- Document data engineering processes, architectures, and workflows to facilitate knowledge sharing and onboarding of new team members.
- Stay up-to-date with industry trends and emerging technologies in data engineering, recommending improvements and innovations to existing practices.
- Participate in code reviews and contribute to the development of best practices for data engineering within the team.
- Assist in troubleshooting and resolving data-related issues, ensuring minimal disruption to business operations.
- Engage in cross-functional collaboration to support data-driven projects and initiatives across various departments.
- Provide mentorship and guidance to junior data engineers, fostering a culture of continuous learning and improvement.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
- A minimum of 3 years of experience in data engineering or a similar role.
- Proficiency in programming languages such as Python, Java, or Scala for data manipulation and processing.
- Strong experience with SQL and relational databases, as well as familiarity with NoSQL databases like MongoDB or Cassandra.
- Knowledge of data warehousing concepts and experience with ETL tools such as Apache NiFi, Talend, or AWS Glue.
- Understanding of data modeling techniques and best practices for data architecture.
- Experience with cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure, Google Cloud) and their data services.
- Familiarity with data visualization tools such as Tableau, Power BI, or Looker is a plus.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
- Strong communication skills, with the ability to convey complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
Nice to have
- Experience with big data technologies such as Apache Hadoop, Spark, or Kafka.
- Knowledge of machine learning concepts and frameworks, enabling collaboration with data scientists.
- Familiarity with containerization technologies like Docker and orchestration tools such as Kubernetes.
- Previous experience in an Agile development environment, contributing to iterative project delivery.
- Understanding of data governance and compliance regulations, such as GDPR.
