About the role
This role leads the team responsible for member-facing cashback, merchant offers, and the underlying platform architecture. You will manage a group of engineers while maintaining a hands-on presence in the codebase to build and scale these financial products. In this capacity, you will balance strategic planning with deep technical execution to ensure that offers are reliable, performant, and aligned with business goals. You will own the end-to-end lifecycle of feature development, from initial discovery through production deployment and optimization. The position requires a blend of managerial oversight and individual contribution to uphold the highest standards of code quality. You will act as a bridge between product intent and technical feasibility, guiding the team through complex requirements. Ultimately, you will drive the creation of experiences that directly impact member engagement and revenue through data-informed decisions.

What you'll do
- Recruit, mentor, and manage a high-performing engineering team while fostering a culture of ownership and accountability.
- Write production code and review pull requests to maintain technical standards and ensure consistency across the codebase.
- Define the technical roadmap for discovery, claim, and redemption features to align with evolving business objectives.
- Collaborate with Product, Design, and Analytics to translate experiments into member value and actionable product insights.
- Oversee backend platform architecture, reliability, and instrumentation to support scalable and resilient services.
- Manage third-party merchant and partner integrations to ensure seamless data flow and compliance requirements.
- Maintain operational health and incident-response protocols to minimize downtime and maximize system stability.
- Contribute to broader engineering initiatives across the organization to drive best practices and innovation.
- Evaluate emerging technologies and tools to enhance the development workflow and product capabilities.
- Lead cross-functional planning sessions to prioritize workstreams and allocate resources effectively.
- Monitor key performance indicators to assess the success of features and inform future iterations.
- Facilitate technical design discussions to solve complex problems with elegant and maintainable solutions.
- Ensure that all engineering activities adhere to security and data privacy standards.
- Support the continuous improvement of engineering processes and documentation.
Requirements
- 2+ years of people management experience including hiring and development to succeed in leading a diverse engineering team.
- Proficiency in hands-on coding and a desire to remain technical to maintain credibility and understand implementation details.
- Experience with AI-assisted development tools like Cursor, Claude Code, or Codex to leverage modern productivity enhancements.
- Background in shipping consumer-facing features and running experiments to validate hypotheses and measure impact.
- Experience with service-oriented architectures and backend platforms at scale to handle growing member demands.
- Strong cross-functional collaboration skills to work effectively with Product, Design, Analytics, and other stakeholders.
- Ability to drive delivery against aggressive schedules while maintaining quality and technical integrity.
- Demonstrated ability to debug complex issues and optimize system performance under pressure.
- Familiarity with financial services regulations and compliance considerations relevant to offers and cashback products.
- Willingness to participate in on-call rotations to address critical production issues as needed.
- Commitment to writing clean, testable code that is maintainable by peers now and in the future.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills to articulate technical concepts to non-technical audiences.

- Familiarity with Ruby on Rails, React Native, AWS, and distributed systems to accelerate onboarding and delivery.
