The serves as the primary financial strategist for a portfolio of mission-driven organizations, owning the end-to-end delivery of finance and accounting services. This role requires direct oversight of service delivery while functioning as an outsourced Chief Financial Officer for assigned clients, ensuring alignment between financial operations and community impact goals. The hire will lead cross-functional collaboration with Accounting, Accounts Payable, Payroll, and Retirement Services to streamline processes and enhance financial accuracy. Success in this position is defined by proactive problem-solving, exceptional professional judgment, and a commitment to maintaining trust with clients during periods of growth and change. The Director will translate complex financial data into clear narratives that support client decision-making and long-term stability. This is a remote-first role that demands discipline, ownership, and the ability to manage multiple priorities across diverse client industries. Travel is required to deepen client relationships and provide on-site support where necessary.

What you'll do
Lead the development and implementation of comprehensive financial service strategies for each client engagement, ensuring alignment with Charter Impact's mission and operational standards.
Own the end-to-end oversight of accounting close processes, including month-end and year-end close activities, to guarantee the accuracy and integrity of financial reporting.
Act as an outsourced CFO by providing strategic financial analysis, forecasting, and scenario modeling that directly inform client business decisions and growth initiatives.
Collaborate with the Accounts Payable team to optimize vendor management, payment processing, and internal controls, reducing risk and improving efficiency.
Partner with the Payroll team to ensure compliance with evolving labor regulations and accurate compensation reporting across client workforces.
Coordinate with the Retirement Services team to design, implement, and monitor retirement plans that meet fiduciary standards and client objectives.
Drive the creation of compliance reports and internal audits to uphold financial regulations, tax requirements, and industry best practices.
Utilize advanced financial modeling to identify trends, mitigate risks, and uncover opportunities for cost savings or revenue optimization.
Serve as the main point of contact for complex client inquiries, translating technical financial concepts into actionable recommendations.
Champion continuous improvement by evaluating current workflows and introducing tools or methodologies that enhance productivity and client satisfaction.
Monitor project timelines and deliverables to ensure that financial milestones are met without compromising quality or attention to detail.
Represent Charter Impact in professional forums and client meetings, reinforcing the brand's reputation for reliability and expertise.
Requirements
Candidates must be based in Arizona, Florida, Rhode Island, Minnesota, Idaho, or Texas due to the remote-first structure and regional compliance considerations.
Applicants must hold a Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a closely related field, or demonstrate equivalent professional experience that covers core financial principles.
A minimum of seven years of progressive experience in finance, accounting, or advisory roles is required, with at least three years in a leadership or supervisory capacity.
Proficiency in generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) and experience with financial reporting under both accrual and cash bases are mandatory.
Strong working knowledge of payroll processing, accounts payable workflows, and retirement plan administration is essential for effective cross-team collaboration.
Candidates must be comfortable working with cloud-based accounting software and enterprise resource planning systems, with the ability to quickly adapt to new technologies.
Professional certifications such as Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) are highly valued and may be required depending on client needs.
The successful applicant must pass a background check and demonstrate sound ethical judgment, integrity, and discretion when handling sensitive financial information.
