As a Safety Engineer within the Safety Unit, your responsibilities will encompass ensuring the secure operation of the beam lines and infrastructure overseen by the Beams Department. Your expertise will be vital in evaluating safety requirements and implementing effective risk mitigation strategies.

What you'll do

• Analyze safety requirements and devise risk mitigation strategies for various activities, including accelerator and beam operations, as well as large-scale projects.
• Conduct safety audits, inspections, and testing to assess compliance across installations, laboratories, and workshops.
• Authorize activities by performing safety evaluations and issuing safety permits, ensuring adherence to CERN's safety regulations.
• Deliver training sessions and promote safety awareness, ensuring that best practices are well understood and implemented.
• Engage in the continuous enhancement of CERN's safety and quality management systems, including the maintenance of relevant documentation.
• Collaborate with diverse stakeholders to foster a safety culture through effective communication and training initiatives.
• Participate in incident analysis and follow-up actions to ensure lessons learned are integrated into future safety practices.
• Contribute to the development of safety documentation, ensuring it meets regulatory standards and is accessible to all relevant parties.

Requirements

• A Master's Degree or equivalent experience in Nuclear Engineering, Occupational Health and Safety, Aerospace Engineering, Process Engineering, or a related discipline.
• Proven experience in safety engineering, risk evaluation, and licensing processes within complex technical environments, such as research facilities or large-scale engineering projects.
• Strong background in writing documentation and managing quality within regulated industries.
• Experience conducting inspections and analyzing incidents, along with the ability to follow up on findings effectively.
• Ability to liaise with various stakeholders, promoting a strong safety culture through effective training and communication.
• Proficiency in spoken and written English or French, with a commitment to learning the other language.

Nice to have

• Familiarity with electrical safety protocols.
• Experience working in multidisciplinary and diverse teams.
• Knowledge of operational and radiological safety regulations.

Skills & tools

• Expertise in occupational safety and risk management, including hazard identification, risk assessment, and the definition of compensatory measures.
• Proficient in information and document management related to safety documentation.
• Familiarity with techniques for incident analysis and reporting.

Practical notes

• This position requires work in radiation areas and may involve interventions in underground installations.
• A valid driving license is necessary for this role.
• Flexibility to work during nights, weekends, and public holidays may be required based on organizational needs.
• The job is classified at grade 6-7, with a standard working week of 40 hours.
