The Role

This position operates as a Compliance Paralegal within Carta Law, owning the full compliance workflow from initial intake through final shipment. You will guide private equity transactions through rigorous KYC checks and regulatory adherence while maintaining clear documentation of all decisions. Success requires a methodical approach to complex structures and precise communication with all stakeholders. The role is based in London and is a fixed-term engagement requiring 3 to 5 years of relevant experience. The compensation range is 60,000 GBP to 80,000 GBP.

The Problems You'll Solve

You will focus on unlocking the power of equity ownership by ensuring transactions are secure and compliant. Your work will involve a detailed analysis of transaction structures in partnership with private equity deal teams. You will identify all counterparties and conduct risk assessments with a specific focus on AML, bribery, financial crime, and reputational exposure. A core responsibility is unpacking complex entity ownership, including fund vehicles, SPVs, and partnerships, to map the complete ownership chain behind every transaction. You will drive the materials-gathering process, liaising with deal teams, legal departments, and counterparties to secure necessary documentation. This ensures KYC reviews are completed to a high standard and on schedule. You will also keep deals compliant by collaborating with clients' legal and compliance teams to meet AML/CTF regulations, internal policies, and jurisdiction-specific requirements, identifying issues early to prevent delays at closing.

The Team You'll Work With

You will join the Compliance

Transactional Sub Division under Carta Law. This team operates at the intersection of private equity deal-making and regulatory compliance. It conducts KYC due diligence on complex asset management entities to ensure every transaction supported by Carta is clean, compliant, and defensible. You will partner with deal teams, lawyers, and compliance professionals on live transactions involving fund structures, SPVs, and multi-jurisdictional counterparties.

About You

You hold 1-2+ years of experience in a legal sector role, internship, or graduate position, with demonstrated work in document review and regulatory compliance. You are analytically minded and meticulous, capable of working through complex structures carefully and documenting essential risks clearly. Your written work is precise and professional, and your verbal communication instills confidence in colleagues and counterparties regarding your judgment. You are deadline-oriented and adaptable, managing multiple priorities under pressure without errors while remaining energized by a fast-moving compliance environment. Curiosity about private markets is a meaningful advantage; familiarity with fund structures, offshore jurisdictions such as Cayman and Luxembourg, or KYC screening tools like WorldCheck, Refinitiv, and RDC is beneficial. Holding an ICA or ACAMS certification is a plus.
