You will be entrusted with significant responsibility from the outset, owning complex workers' compensation cases from first contact through to final resolution. Daily, you will engage in drafting pleadings and legal correspondence while actively managing a full caseload that spans intake all the way through final resolution. A critical part of your ownership will involve acquiring workers' compensation cases, which requires a meticulous review of medical records and the organized transformation of case facts into clear, actionable legal strategies. You will also coordinate discovery, depositions, and mediations to ensure every file progresses efficiently and steadily toward a favorable settlement.

What you'll do

• Conduct complex workers' compensation defense litigation from initial client contact through case closure.
• Draft pleadings, motions, and substantive legal correspondence with precision and adherence to strict procedural rules.
• Manage a full caseload, balancing intake, file organization, and final resolution without sacrificing quality or attention to detail.
• Analyze and review medical records to extract relevant facts and build coherent, defensible case strategies.
• Coordinate discovery requests, manage document production, and prepare thoroughly for depositions to control narrative and risk.
• Organize and participate in mediations, using structured preparation to push cases efficiently toward settlement.
• Refine case strategy collaboratively during team reviews, emphasizing consistent quality of documentation and work product.
• Maintain precise billing and disciplined file flow habits to balance workloads and keep all critical deadlines visible and met.
• Work seamlessly with internal colleagues and external counsel to close matters smoothly, preserve client trust, and uphold the firm's reputation.
• Support trial readiness through exhaustive file analysis and the creation of organized, easily accessible documentation for hearings.
• Track all deadlines and procedural rules with vigilance to guarantee every submission meets both firm standards and client expectations.
• Leverage technology and software tools to manage case materials, communicate efficiently, and streamline workflow processes.
• Communicate proactively with clients and stakeholders to provide clear updates and manage expectations throughout the lifecycle of each case.
• Continuously seek opportunities for professional growth by learning from experienced attorneys and applying feedback to improve performance.

Requirements

• You must hold current bar admission in at least one jurisdiction and carry appropriate insurance to practice workers' compensation defense in Alabama.
• You must possess between two and three years of litigation experience to qualify for this role.
• Preference will be given to candidates with specific experience in workers' compensation defense, personal injury defense, and medical records analysis.
• You must demonstrate a strong work ethic, reliability, and a consistent openness to receiving feedback, supervision, and ongoing learning.
• You must be able to work effectively both independently and as part of a collaborative team in a fast-paced legal environment.
• You must have the ability to manage multiple deadlines and priorities simultaneously without compromising the accuracy or quality of your work.
• You must be comfortable with detailed document review and factual analysis to identify key issues and develop strategic approaches.
• You must comply with all firm policies, ethical rules, and professional standards governing the practice of law in Alabama.

Nice to have

Workers' compensation experience and familiarity with personal injury defense workflows are valued. Proficiency with Microsoft Office 365, HighQ, Relativity, email, and calendaring tools is expected.
