About the role
Bamboohr is seeking a dedicated Quantity Estimator to join our dynamic team in Montréal, Quebec. This full-time position is integral to our construction projects, where you will play a key role in ensuring accurate cost assessments and resource allocations. As a Quantity Estimator, you will collaborate closely with project managers, architects, and subcontractors to deliver precise estimates that align with project goals and budgets.

What you'll do
- Prepare detailed quantity take-offs from construction drawings and specifications to determine the necessary materials and labor for projects.
- Analyze project documents to identify potential risks and opportunities, ensuring that all aspects of the project are considered in the estimating process.
- Collaborate with project managers and other stakeholders to develop comprehensive cost estimates that reflect the scope of work accurately.
- Maintain and update a database of historical costs and pricing information to enhance the accuracy of future estimates.
- Review and assess subcontractor bids, ensuring they align with project specifications and budget constraints.
- Participate in value engineering sessions to identify cost-saving opportunities without compromising quality or safety.
- Prepare and present detailed reports on estimates, including breakdowns of labor, materials, and overhead costs for internal and external stakeholders.
- Assist in the preparation of tender submissions and proposals, ensuring compliance with client requirements and timelines.
- Monitor project progress and adjust estimates as necessary to reflect changes in scope or unforeseen circumstances.
- Stay current with industry trends, materials, and construction methods to provide informed recommendations and insights.
- Foster strong relationships with suppliers and subcontractors to ensure competitive pricing and reliable service.
- Contribute to the continuous improvement of estimating processes and tools within the organization.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or a related field.
- A minimum of 3-5 years of experience in quantity surveying or estimating within the construction industry.
- Proficiency in estimating software and tools, such as Bluebeam, Excel, or similar applications.
- Strong understanding of construction methods, materials, and industry standards.
- Excellent analytical skills with a keen eye for detail to ensure accuracy in estimates.
- Effective communication skills, both written and verbal, to convey complex information clearly to various stakeholders.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment while managing multiple projects and deadlines.
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to prioritize tasks effectively.
- Knowledge of local building codes and regulations relevant to the construction industry in Quebec.
Nice to have
- Certification as a Quantity Surveyor (CQS) or similar professional designation.
- Experience with project management software, such as Procore or Primavera.
- Familiarity with sustainable building practices and green construction methods.
- Previous experience in a similar role within a general contracting firm.
- Bilingual proficiency in French and English is an asset.
