What you'll do
- Analyze project documents, including drawings and specifications, to develop comprehensive MEP cost estimates.
- Collaborate with project managers, architects, and engineers to gather necessary information for accurate estimations.
- Prepare detailed quantity take-offs for mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems, ensuring all components are accounted for.
- estimating software and tools to streamline the estimation process and improve accuracy.
- Conduct market research to stay updated on material costs and labor rates, ensuring estimates reflect current market conditions.
- Review and assess subcontractor bids to ensure competitiveness and compliance with project requirements.
- Participate in pre-bid meetings and site visits to gain a better understanding of project scope and requirements.
- Provide support during the bidding process, including clarifying questions and addressing any discrepancies in estimates.
- Maintain organized records of estimates, revisions, and project documentation for future reference.
- Assist in the development of project schedules and timelines based on estimated costs and resource availability.
- Communicate effectively with team members and stakeholders to ensure alignment on project goals and expectations.
- Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives within the estimating department to enhance efficiency and accuracy.
Requirements
- A minimum of 5 years of experience in MEP estimating within the construction industry.
- Proficiency in estimating software, such as Accubid, Bluebeam, or similar tools.
- Strong understanding of MEP systems, including HVAC, plumbing, and electrical installations.
- Excellent analytical skills with a keen eye for detail and accuracy in calculations.
- Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and technical specifications.
- Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, to effectively collaborate with team members and stakeholders.
- Proven ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet tight deadlines.
- Familiarity with local building codes and regulations related to MEP systems.
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field is preferred.
Nice to have
- Certification from a recognized estimating or construction management organization.
- Experience with sustainable building practices and energy-efficient systems.
- Knowledge of project management principles and methodologies.
- Bilingual proficiency in French and English is an asset.
