The is entrusted with owning the complete lifecycle of Anti-Financial Crime oversight, ensuring that every case progresses from initial intake to final resolution meets the highest standards of compliance and integrity. This position acts as the definitive second-line review point, where decisions directly shape the quality and reliability of investigations for customers operating in regulated jurisdictions. The role demands rigorous validation of controls, meticulous examination of evidence, and a proactive stance in identifying and resolving gaps before they escalate. You will work in concert with cross-functional partners to embed robust processes that can withstand evolving threats and shifting regulatory demands. What you'll do
- Execute comprehensive second-line quality reviews across all AFC workflows to confirm strict adherence to internal policies and external regulatory benchmarks.
- Assess the thoroughness and precision of investigations, ensuring that decisions, documentation, and escalations are complete, well-founded, and aligned with established standards.
- Review Proof of Funds and Source of Funds submissions to verify that investigations are risk-based, methodical, and supported by sufficient, defensible evidence.
- Analyze transaction monitoring alerts and suspicious activity cases to confirm that investigations satisfy legal mandates and internal procedural requirements.
- Conduct in-depth enhanced due diligence on complex business customers, legal entities, and intricate ownership structures to validate the accuracy of recorded beneficial ownership information.
- Identify systemic control weaknesses and recurring quality deficiencies, then partner with stakeholders to design, implement, and monitor effective remediation plans.
- Collaborate closely with AML Officers, Risk, Product, Operations, Engineering, and Data teams to challenge existing workflows and elevate the overall robustness of the Anti-Financial Crime framework.
- Test the configuration and logic of transaction monitoring systems and validate the quality and defensibility of investigation evidence to ensure alignment with industry best practices.
- Coordinate with AML oversight officers to harmonize investigative standards, clarify reporting narratives, and ensure consistent application of procedures across teams and jurisdictions.
- Drive measurable improvements in AFC controls by analyzing case trends, emerging risks, and outcome data to generate actionable insights and targeted recommendations.
- Serve as a subject matter expert on Anti-Financial Crime practices, providing guidance and clarity to partners on regulatory expectations and internal policies.
- Maintain detailed documentation of reviews, findings, and remediation tracking to support audit readiness and transparent oversight.
- Support the continuous maturation of the AFC control library by contributing feedback on process effectiveness and control performance.
- Champion a culture of compliance excellence by demonstrating disciplined investigation reviews and promoting adherence to policy across the organization.
Requirements
- Hold a university degree in a relevant discipline such as Law, Business Administration, Economics, or Finance, providing a solid theoretical foundation for compliance work.
- Your educational background must encompass key elements of Anti-Financial Crime Compliance, regulatory compliance frameworks, and risk management principles.
- Bring professional experience in Anti-Financial Crime Compliance, AML investigations, Financial Crime Advisory, or Compliance Oversight within a relevant context.
- Your career must include tenure within a regulated financial institution, payment institution, fintech company, cryptocurrency service provider, or specialized consultancy.
- You must have demonstrable experience in quality assurance activities, second-line control functions, or compliance oversight roles.
- You must possess a thorough understanding of risk-based AML/CFT control frameworks and how these are applied in day-to-day compliance operations.
- Hands-on experience conducting Proof of Funds investigations is an essential requirement for this position.
- You must have direct experience reviewing complex legal entities, including an understanding of ownership structures and beneficial identification methods.
- You must have practical experience in preparing or assessing Suspicious Activity Reports under Austrian and/or German AML/CFT legislation.
- You must be proficient in interpreting structured data, such as transaction records and case files, and translating these insights into risk-based decisions and process enhancements.
- You must be able to exercise sound judgment when operating with limited guidance, demonstrating ownership and accountability for complex compliance decisions.
- You must communicate effectively in English, with strong written and verbal skills to produce clear documentation and engage constructively with stakeholders.
- You must be comfortable working within a regulated financial services environment where accuracy, consistency, and attention to detail are critical.
- You must be willing to adhere to established policies and procedures while contributing constructively to their ongoing refinement.
